Trust me - there are two of us in this house who know a vast amount about school funding and its difficulties. I suspect many more years than you involved with it all, and not dabbling as amateurs on the governing body either.

As for SAVE - yes I think I can say I have a bit more idea about that organisation, how it is run, and its ideals than you have also. I know very well how it is funded. If you wish to start your own conservation organisation, run it and fund it then of course you are free to do so.

I think I also have some knowledge of the various national cash pots for heritage, and how they operate. No there is never enough, but saving cash on Pugin wallpaper wouldn't have made much difference... this is a serious interior of some cohesion and continuing such artistic and design cohesion was in that case important.

Oh, its not the first time! Graham does tend to get a bit OTT at times.

I'm not at all arrogant etc if you knew me - but what I said was true. Simple as that.

I also said there are two of us here. We do know a tad about schools, their operation, management and their budgets. But - I don't think this is the place to play 'I'll show you mine if you show me yours', really. It's all getting a bit pathetic.

(I also know rather more about SAVE I suspect than Graham does as well.)

No, I can't know for sure - maybe Graham will enlighten us all then if he so wishes.

I think that I can fairly say that between us though there is a fair bit of expertise on the matter residing in our household - over many, many decades. Long, long before Graham was involved I suspect.

And I don't suspect Graham has much idea either about SAVE, at least I've never even seen him on the list of Friends and donors so that does make me wonder.

And to be honest - I don't actually give a bugger what either of you think!

You've said this before after other 'silly spats', which makes me wonder why you bother at all.

You see, it's all a matter of perspective (and humility).

Why bother? Well, I was trying to point out to Graham a few truths about some organisations and funding, allied to the fact NT suggested that what some required was volunteers and not cash.

No, some require cash, but not as government handouts. That would compromise their independence.

More funding to the English Heritage grant aid pot would of course be useful, which is not of course a voluntary sector organsation but a quasi-government body, and there are other national funding pots from which heritage cash is drawn which also need more. But I wouldn't then consider doing two buildings with plastic windows rather than one with wood just to save cash.

And as far as budgets go, the work on the Houses of Parliament, which was the illustration given not by me, has been going on over many years, with the costs spread. The whole furore about wallpaper was kicked up by the Daily Mail as part of a shock horror report which was at the time aimed at the Lord Chancellor, as part of a wider campaign against him and the government. The impression given was that it was spent personally by him on his own home. It wasn't.

There has been a vast amount of cash spent there on other things too, it is starting to look now like it should as one of our major public buildings. There are times when doing it right is the correct thing to do, in my opinion.

I too budget - over many years - I wait until I can afford to do the right thing by my home also.

Why bother? Oh, at times it mildly amuses me to see how silly people can get actually... and how much they think they know about people, and are prepared to make all manner of wild OTT remarks, when in fact they know nowt at all very much. Like you - you don't really have any idea at all about me, but hey a quick google and look what quotes you can find! ;-)


But - playtime over - I seriously have a report to write, at times the pen is mightier than the sword and my small pennyworth may help, in its small way, as I have a spot of expertise in the area concerned, save a listed building, currently the subject of a public inquiry, from demolition.

PS - as you are new to this forum I gather that history re Graham and his personal abuse of me isn't something of which you are aware!

I could say you are an arrogant stuck up know it all and that I think would be personal and abusive. I could say you are fat and smelly (and my dad is bigger than yours) with knobs on and that too may be considered personal abuse.
