There is a trade off though as I don't mind a bit of building work and wasn't particularly bothered by the thought of borrowing a krowbar to open the krate that his statue came in. My headmaster at the primary school there was actually called Mr Feltwell. And my real surname is very unusual and is the same as an old district of Norfolk. Alas I have yet to discover any ancient rights granting me ownership.

I found this piece of writing on a writing tips website as an explanation for the inaccuracy having come into popular usage:
"One contributing factor is a fondness for punning “bored” with “board” in the term “Board of Education.” There’s a 1936 Our Gang movie short with the title “Bored of Education,” and a 1946 Little Lulu cartoon with the same title. More recently, the group Brooklyn Academy has released a CD called “Bored of Education.”
Along the same punning lines, there’s an Australian website called “Bored of Studies.” Its function is to provide help for students studying for a state exam offered by the New South Wales Board of Studies.
Another pun that has contributed to the “bored of” virus is the title of a parody of The Lord of the Rings: Bored of the Rings, a 1969 paperback novel by Henry N. Beard and Douglas C. Kenney.
The internet is altering English at a tremendous rate. This process of change is accelerated by the shallow teaching of English in the schools. When, as a result of ignorance or wit, a nonstandard usage is duplicated on popular sites, its constant repetition makes it familiar. In time, familiarity paves the way for acceptance. "

L - Ledged and braced. Type of functional and utilitarian door with "Z" shape bracing on the back.
Lath - not be confused with lathe. Strips of wood nailed to upright timber studs to form a base for plaster for a lightweight internal wall construction, or more commonly to the underside of joists to form a base for ceiling plaster. Now superseded by plasterboard for new construction.
Lagging - insulation that should not be taken off pipes in order to tie ribbons round them!

I admire your commitment to this excellent thread Feltwell but you one or two things to learn about period properties.
LAGGING: Insulation for pipes, fine if concealed, not to be borne with if visible particularly if arched across the sexpartite vaulted ceiling of one's breakfast room.
LACE/RIBBON: Vital for repair of period properties, may be used in all manner of situations where string is more prosaically found.

LACKEY, uniformed manservant, ( in its original meaning ) sadly now missing from most period properties.
LOAD BEARING WALL, supports part of the building, in period properties usually constructed without input from a structural engineer or computer.
LOCK, mechanism to keep out ruffians and ne'er-do-wells.
