You are asking the impossible I'm afraid, because "look, this is how you do it" seems to be about personal opinion and how much time/energy is available as much as anything else!
I would recommend the method I used if you have terrific willpower and strong arms (and I know you're lucky enough to have both!) The oil sealant (3 coats), which in my case was Liberon Floor Sealer, was the stage that made the most difference to the appearance. The layers of wax (3 coats of Liberon Floor Wax) on top have just created a slight glassiness (certainly nothing approaching a French polished look), and will give the finish greater longevity - but it will need rewaxing in 6 months. As I've pointed out this is an area of low traffic, so hopefully a traditional wax finish should not wear out too quickly.
Going over and over and over the same little bit of floor for 2 weeks, it's a bit depressing really. I've just finished, so this is a bad time to get me talking about it.
Sure in a couple of weeks when it's becoming a distant memory I'll be up for the next one.
