Which shellac sealant?

Just a word of caution if you have under 16s. I spent many hours staining then shellac sealing and then waxing my floor and delighted with the result banned my kids from eating and drinking in there. Since then my teenager has spilt Coca Cola all over it then the youngest some orange juice and I now have big patches where wax, shellac and colour have all been stripped off. With hindsight I would not have applied a stain and I'm still wondering what I'm going to do to restore it.

Mmm, my cat vomited in the music room (is my singing that bad??) and I've got the same issue. I've been advised to gently wire wool or low grade sandpaper the affected area, reapply the stain with a paint brush and then reapply the other products on top.

I keep banging on about it but I would really recommend Osmo Colour Foundation followed by their PolyX Hard Wax Oil.
It specifically says it's proof against cola spills and I can testify to its red wine resistance!

I've uploaded some pictures to give you an idea.

In the front room - I sanded back the original pine boards to remove an old acrylic finish applied around the edges (I found the old tub in the garage).

Then I applied an incredibly thin coat of Oak colour foundation

Finally covering with 2 coats of matt PolyX.

Elsewhere the original boards had gone so new pine was used. That was gently sanded...

Tthen another thin coat of oak colour foundation

And two coats of satin PolyX.

My only word of warning is that where I sanded the downstairs boards to 120grit AND denibbed between and after the top coats the floor is a bit more slippery than I would like. I didn't sand the landing as smooth or denib which has left it a bit more grippy. I would probably use a different top coat on stairs - lots of recommendations for traffic wax on here.

You mean because of the stack of newspaper on top of it? the substantial crack in the side? the loose glass in the doors or because it appears to have been made in a shed by a madman? I have a carbon monoxide alarm in that room but we use the stove most weekend evenings without problems. Even in use the logs stay stacked against the right hand side with the paper a foot in front without problems

The pictures of the front room were taken in August, the room has been completely redecorated and occupied since then. We've hoovered it a few times and mopped with the legendary Ecouver Floor Soap. No signs of problems with the finish to date.

In the 'other' front room with the same treatment the only problem came when I snagged the edge of a board moving furniture - obviously the pine underneath is still pine coloured so it stands out like a sore thumb. I touched that up when I did the landing last week.

My pal has a barn conversion with engineered Oak boards covered with Osmo. He has been using it as an office (about 10 staff daily) for the last 5 years and his floors still look OK. with just mopping. Recovering with Osmo Polyx is as simple as mopping and then applying another coat, no need to resand back.

We also used it to seal the pamments and floorbricks in our kitchen and vinery where it is standing up much better than the lousy mortar our lazy bricklayer laid

I bought some from http://www.vanillawoodfloors.co.uk and some from www.paint-paper.co.uk (Norwich but also mail order) depending on who was cheaper and had stock when I needed it. P&P had samples on display which helped me to pick the colour.

It looks expensive but it goes a really long way, providing you apply it as directed, very thinly almost to the point where its over brushed. I've used about 1/3rd of a tin of colour foundation doing two 4x5m rooms and the hall 1x5m. I got two coats of PolyX out of one 2.5lt tin in the two larger rooms.
