Actually it's mostly 1940s and 50s Portland stone, admittedly undermaintained but not entirely unloved, and capable (if only the City, stuck in a Sixties "start again!" mindset, would realise it) of being revitalised without the crass, chavvy, rebuildings that are being proposed.

Now that Guildhall interior is lovely; for the rest I think would need a good gin haze to be persuaded of their beauty.

Penners, I quite like the Selfridges building - it's different, if a bit "shouty" as you say.

I don't dislike it. But if I had to pick a preferred building of that type, it would be the Sage in Gateshead. One of Norm's best IMO.
