Two years ago during May Day festivities, Jocelyn Witchard jumped naked off Magdalen Bridge into the river and then posed for The Sun. (That was when the college became known as "St Thrillda's".) Ms Witchard said she was striking a blow for feminism and equal opportunities. You can't imagine anyone from boring old Balliol doing as much for the cause.

It was soooo cold. You know what though, this was reported as a sensational nude jump from a great height, and it wasn't at all, I'm absolutely petrified of heights and wouldn't jump off a stile let alone a bridge. I actually kind of slithered out of a punt not far from the bridge, and was photographed, naiad-esque, but glugging from a £1 bottle of Cava.

I think that's a good example of bathos, which is my favourite comedic device.

Anyway- it's a long time ago now. Now Skier Hughes' photo is more accurate; "grotesquely obese, a great heap, barely mobile".

Ahh, yes, fortunate for you indeed. But some of us have memories Joce - I'm the same age as you, and at the time of your escapade I was seeing a young lady from St Catherine's college. I distinctly remember the hoo-hah afterwards, and seeing the pictures of a rather attractive young lady in the altogether. :wink:

I won't say any more, we've Penners' blood pressure to think of after all.....

All the fuss was rather hypocritical really - various boys had been getting their kit off and jumping in the river for some years I was told, the second a girl dares to do it and it's national news.

My girlfrend approved by the way!
