A bit of a transformation from when I saw your abode!

Yes, that was the summer of 2012 I believe Feltwell, when I was just about at my worst. Where was I then - render off? Boarded up windows? Front demolished? No roof on side?
You might pop in again if you still come up this way occasionally.

I seem to remember that you didn't have a front door, just a massive hole in the wall covered up by a sheet of plywood on strap hinges. You had to go through this from your "living room" (building site!), to a plank across a very muddy outside, to get to the 1970's style pink bathroom. Ohh yes, and the bottom of the stairs was missing, so being a climber came in handy.

Alas I don't tend to be down that way any more, but if ever I am I shall pop in.

The only problem with a nice floor is the need to keep mud off it.

I am delightificated. You too saw it in its previous state Flyfisher, so thanks for your praise! The main part of the house and the study have the same flooring throughout. It was a gift, in the end, from SteveB on this forum, as he didn't want any money for it. Extremely time-consuming to lay, but worth it!

Oh, you may not have paid in money, but you paid in blood, sweat and double tears... Glad you think it was worth it !

There's still the garden of course. I haven't even started that yet.

OOOOoooooh!!! That's a dangerous thing to say, Zebra! One of the fundamental principles of period property restoration is that there's no such thing as FINISHED! There's only a brief pause between the last few licks of paint at the end of the Forth Bridge before you start again at the beginning! :wink:

But seriously, many congratulations! You've done a fantastic job, and you have definitely earned that brief pause! I hope you'll hug yourself (and Giraffe) with joy when you settle down in front of your fireside and revel in the fruits of your labours. I wish you many very happy years in the house.

Your hard work and dedication have certainly paid off and your home is a credit to you. What about furniture/furnishings - do you now get to do some retail therapy choosing the finishing touches or do you just need to chill for a bit?

I know Penners. Of course you're right, but allow me my moment of glory, even if everything I post from now on is prefaced with "I know I said the house was finished, but......"

I'm afraid the words "retail" and "therapy" don't really belong together much for me. I do want some battered old leather armchairs, but apart from that, I haven't really thought about furniture. I suppose I ought to get some.

Well...... it's enough for now, I hope! Although, Giraffe is a hoarder of mechanical and electrical bits and bobs, and this house doesn't have a garage or large shed, so IF we were ever to live together.............

I'm with you on the *retail* not being therapy :lol: I detest high street shopping and as stated elsewhere, my preferred shopping destination is a certain online auction site, but if I do have to venture from the comfort of my ancient, antique armchair, it would be to a bricks and mortar auction house or flea market etc :wink:

Might be an idea to get some furniture though......and battered old leather armchairs sound just the ticket for your lovely home!

What a fantastic job. I am really impressed that you did it yourself to a high standard and that the little bits and pieces are really well thought out. What are you going to do with yourself now?

I quite like minimalist (or at least tidy) living. The other half likes every surface and especially any walk ways to be completely covered by junk. Though even left to my own devices if I put the bare minimum all the rest just appears by itself.
