Well done Zebra. It's been great seeing your house develop, particularly bearing in mind how much you taught yourself on the job. Having said this, I am somewhat disappointed that Henry has not been mentioned in the credits, however, I'm sure he's too busy creating another lovely home to worry.

What a fantastic record of all your efforts, Zebra! It's a huge achievement, of which I hope you are extremely proud - you certainly should be!

I wish I had been that dedicated to keeping detailed photographic records of my restoration projects - but in fairness to myself I should add that the majority of mine were before the advent of the digital camera. I have a few dozen shots, but not many considering the number of projects I have undertaken.

I can see Penners, how it must have been harder to record your project before the digital camera. Surely though, you could have had someone do a few etchings? :wink:

Funnily enough we were looking through some old childhood photo albums over Christmas and stumbled upon a scrapbook we made of one of our first restoration projects (mid 1990s) - we are lucky enough to have taken progress pics of most of ours, the last few being digital - and were reminded that we were well ahead of the current trend for grey interiors when we painted below the chair rail in our hallway (that had a yellow/grey 'print room' theme) in battleship grey in 1993 :lol:

It's good to see all of the photos. It is surprising how much a building can suffer in the short time since they invented all the concrete stuff to ruin it. It must have been a nice surprise for the building to have you come along.

Every bit looks like it needed to come apart to be sorted out. Most of the photos are structural. Are they the most fun or did you find the project speeded to a quick finish after the structural work had been completed? (Just being hopeful here having mostly finished the structural stuff).

I can understand that you would think so, but unfortunately I worked so fast that the guy with the etching kit couldn't keep up. So the only memento I have of myself at work is this one, in which I'm studying the Listed Building Consent document before commencing my lightning-fast workmanship (note the decorative hammer and Kit-Kat pouch hanging from my belt).

I can certainly relate to 99.9% of those images .... .1% being the deep cess pit diving - that I could not have done - that must give you nightmares!

Ha ha, yes. It wasn't a cesspit, that I think I would have stopped short of. It was an old well / rainwater pit.
The message from the mice did surprise me. I pulled masses of old chomped up newspaper out from under the stairs and between joists, but that piece was the only one with which they'd tried to scare me off.

In terms of time taken, I don't think it got any better once I was on to the more cosmetic stuff. In terms of worry however, the burden was greatly eased!
