Joce was the perfect hostess, even to the point of dealing very gently and kindly with some senile twit who arrived too early.

The house is quite wonderful, and was looking beautiful despite the allocation of one bedroom to some kind of feather-footed wildlife. :wink:

And of course the icing on the (rather alcoholic) trifle was the opportunity to meet some more PPUKers - all of whom completely lived up to expectations. What a lovely bunch!

I'm sorry for the tardy response to the overwhelming loveliness of my guests. It's all that naughty Mr Hughes' fault, keeping me up all night and dragging me round windmills today. :wink:

You were all absolutely delightful, I've never enjoyed hosting a party as much as yesterday's. It was wonderful to see the people I'd met before, as well as meet some people who I've wanted to meet for a long time. I have to confess to being a bit in love with Mr Plummer, who showed the most gratifying interest in the birds as well as sporting trousers of a spectacular hue. But I'd never be able to distract him from the charms of lovely Joss, every bit as knowledgeable and charming as I'd thought.

I was so impressed with the costumes of Juju and her husband as well, and the braveness of them coming to meet a houseful of new people. It was lovely sitting up chatting last night, and I just wish the day could have lasted longer, and that you didn't all have such long journeys to make. I'm really really touched that so many miles were driven to make it happen; thank you. And Nigel, in his glorious clothes, walking up through the fields! So sweet, and definitely a hero in a costume drama. X x x

Many many thanks to Gareth and Carole for all their thoughtful help, Carole wasn't expecting to be chicken midwife, and was brilliant, and so much fun, and Gareth just has that knack of seeing what needs to be done and doing it, thank you so much for coming early and helping.

I really, really adore you all and feel so happy to have stumbled across such a lovely bunch of people.

I'm sorry but I'm not having that! When it comes to vulgarity in the trouser department, I yield to no man.

As I remember it, said Mr Plummer was sporting breeches that spoke of a gentlemanly conservatism.

The whole experience was completely and utterly delightful, a pleasure to put faces to names, and what a fun bunch you all are. And what a totally 'stonishing house, and hostess.
I must preserve Joce's honour by pointing out that I kept her up all night watching Betjeman DVDs...
As for my being "helpful", there was pure self-interest in ensuring there was Pimm's made at regular intervals.

I agree. I love a bright trouser on a man. ( though Nigel's new trousers underway are very exciting too). If I recall correctly, Penners' were Rose red and Mr Plummer's deep plum, appropriately enough.

And Gareth's right about the Betjeman, though he also seems to have rolled a few wine bottles under the sofa. He never lost composure though, and coolly strode upon that roof space area where the consumer unit is when we were plunged into darkness by a blown light that tripped a few circuits.

I'm going to really, really miss having the party to look forward to. We mustn't let Nigel forget his kind offer of a Christmas do!

We had a wonderful time and loved the house, company and of course the hostess. I did overindulge somewhat on joce's supplies of wine and was rather incoherent on the way home! Juju

Inspired by the company on Sunday I set aside my tailoring yesterday to show my 15 year old how to mix and apply haired lime plaster to old lath for mending a large patch in his bedroom. He showed his usual teenage indifference throughout, especially when it came to cleaning up afterwards, but I later overhead him talking to a friend "Lime plaster is cool stuff. The more you beat it up the nicer it gets, then you just slap it on."

A result I think, or as he would say "Owned!"

I am not too fluent in the argot of teenage computer gamers, but here's a definition I found on "Teh (sic) Geekopedia"

To own someones bassicly means, you dominated/beat someone so bad, that you practically own them.
"I owned that guy's mage so hard."

My son seems to use this term for even minor victories, which is the sense in which I used it in my post. I am not clear how widespread this hyperbolic use is but the bathetic intent seems clear, at least in my son's case.
