Dodgy old four inch back wall is all down now.
No treasures found to speak of, a couple of old door locations discovered and the water pipe from the well to the kitchen is about it. Looks like the back door was opposite the front door which would mean the staircase isn't in the original position.
Dubious perspective due to panoramic phone photos but should give a rough idea of what's going on.
Upstairs,
Just unearthed strange wall arrangement, so if anyone has any ideas please let us know what you think it may have been - none of us have any idea
closer up
The four inch wall on the left of the above photo has the bricks laid longways as the foundation.
The brick 'floor' on the right is extremely smooth and the corner of the nine inch elbow wall is quite rounded. Tried to show a little plan below.
Looks like an external storeroom, boiler room, coal room, or some such? Ours is described as "wood" on the original plans, I assume describing a woodstore.
The strange wall arrangement may have been some sort of fireplace at one time as there was soot on some of the bricks, but not enough to be certain. We've left as much as possible in place to confound anyone who digs the floor up in the future
Anyhow, back to the present. Some hold ups due to localised monsoon season but progress is still very exciting!
Floor dug out and lots of earth moved. Life would have been easier if the stove wasn't there - hindsight and all that.
Thinking seriously about putting underfloor heating in now.
Block work walls taking shape upstairs...
And yet the cat remains completely unimpressed with the whole carry on
Wood for the new roof is arriving next week too. Yay!!
Money disappearing from the account at an alarming rate. Boo!!
Ta, although ALL credit goes to the builders, they are brilliant! Mostly I'm just running about getting materials, phoning people or making tea (which obviously is very important).
Photo stitching done at source by phone in panoramic mode, I don't think it's really designed for close up house shots but it does give you some idea of what's going on
Hope you didn't get anything like the thunderstorm downpours we had today - positively tropical in intensity! Wouldn't have been a good time to have no roof...or to be up on one!
It is quite lovely to have such a view...in this weather
Will admit that the wife was a little surprised (horrified  )
We stripped the roof and nothing was worth leaving - as you can see in the top picture the woodwork is running the wrong way to tie it all together properly. Oh, and it was wormy too.
Didn't have time to take another photo but the gable end is missing now too. Sigh. Plan is to rebuild it with the odd little window back in which will be nice
