That sounds like a sensible way forward Vicky. Hopefully, things will dry out over the summer and the proposed changes should prevent repeat condensation next winter. Interesting that your neighbour is pursuing a less standard approach to 'increased ventilation', but I'd bet it'll work.

Skier, if your new holes are large enough for birds to get in (which is good for ventilation of course) it might be worth using some mesh to prevent entry. Good luck with keeping out wasps though, they seem to get in everywhere - in my experience anyway.

We've had them two years running but thankfully not last year so maybe we have won the battle for the time being.
I'd need to mesh the outside really and I'm useless with heights, so that's a job for Jo and I can't really see her going up nearly 4 stories on a ladder just to mesh a couple of holes

It'll have to wait until we do the pointing and get scaffolding in a few years time to do properly and I can't bear to think I'd trap a poor bird in a hole it couldn't get back out of
