In order to get that aged look to your new hand made oak door, why not try lime plastering for the first time just above it.
Don't bother covering the door.
Just add plaster to wall, let it fall off in a few big lumps, and slide all down the door.
Where it hasn't hit will be splattered with little spots where the majority of the plaster hit you and the floor.
Wipe quickly.
Next day, go into room to see that platter marks are also all over the new hand made oak door to the wetroom as well. Two for the price of one!
Job sorted.

You have no idea what is like to feel the wrath of an electrified animal security fence tracking back along the wee and attacks your willy. I guarantee you will learn swear words you didn't even know existed !!!. I do.

Today's top tip goes to the two different sets of people who stopped me outside my house this morning and asked for directions:-
Invest in a better sat nav. That way you won't be so embarrassed stopping to ask a stranger if they know where the orienteering competition is being held 8) .

When cutting the front hedge, keep a local street atlas handy. That way you won't be embarrassed when you send someone on a two mile journey to a road 100yds away.
The embarrassment arises first when you mention it to t'other half - who eats maps for breakfast - and secondly when the misdirected motorist comes past again and 'mentions' the point.

I had a panic early one morning this week when I opened the curtains just in time to see a car, the same colour as mine driving past the kitchen window on its way out of the garden. Relieved to find it was a couple of boy-racer farm-boys who were lost. Turned out that the sat-nav had identified the centre of the postcode (that we share with the landscaping company they were looking for) as being behind our garage... :roll:

There would appear to be advantages and disadvantages to Britain's uniquely precise postcode system.
In France, you're lucky if the postcode gets you to a single community, never mind street or building.

An interesting concept!
There are four "downpipes" made of chains on the corners of the main lobby of the sixth form college where my two went. They look odd, but seem to work well. The gutters discharge onto the chains, which then drop into funnels at ground level.

Rain chains were very popular in Japan, often on temples and ending in some sort of water container but on houses too. They work well, but only if the thing at the top ( technical term there ) is properly matched to the chain. In the example one it looks like the outlet is too big and so a lot of the water isn't properly directed.

OK in that circumstance which was clearly designed for it, it was more the idea of people happily cutting away their downpipes and putting the rain chain immediately next to their brick walls, as in the picture on Ebay, that struck me as being a spectacularly daft idea. A nice splashy series of cups merrily soaking your wall every time it rains......
