Before refitting it? I did it fixed to the mower.... And took a broadly similar chunk off each end! :shock:

Bit rough! I think I'd be tempted to at least balance it on a point, see if one end is significantly heavier than t'other after your "surgery". Whilst you're at it you could take the mower blade off and do the same with that :wink:

Not that it's much consolation, I did something of equal stupidity with a table saw blade a couple of years ago. My father has a middle finger that is the same length as the fingers either side as a result of repairing a cylinder mower many years ago....

The vibrating mower jumps around uncontrollably and removes several fingers or toes :shock:. Not just photos required, we need video on YouTube for that .

And if its really out of balance, it'll just shake itself to pieces, maybe taking pieces of you with it.

It depends on how exact you were with your "broadly similar" chunks; if it is badly out of balance, you'll knacker the bearing - which is both a more difficult, and expensive repair.

And if its really out of balance, it'll just shake itself to pieces, maybe taking pieces of you with it.

That was my thinking when I made the comment about balancing the blade. You'll easily notice if the blade is dangerously unbalanced but something less noticeable may still reduce the life of the engine bearings, though it's difficult to predict by how long.

Another top tip:
Linseed paint goes a long way. Especially when your 18month old daughter gets some on her hand and you don't realise. I suspect we haven't found it all yet.

Even if you do the painting in an area she can't get to, she will find something with wet paint on to grab, no matter how adorable she may be.

Make sure you wash your daughter and hang her out to dry. Do not put her straight into the bin as she may spontaneously combust.

I hadn't realised that being adorable was a preventative against getting wet paint on yourself. Next time I'm using linseed paint, is there a good way to try to be more adorable, therefore avoiding this pitfall?

Reminds me of when my labrador trod on the paint tin lid---- fortunately we still had bare floorboards at the time! I should imagine that future owners of the house will eventually have a surprise!

Hmmm. In the absence of less politically correct answers, I would suggest that KitKats placed liberally about your person would increase your level of adorability quite substantially to certain members of this forum.

That's so obviously photoshopped, the boy lions wouldn't get a chance to overindulge as the lionesses would have snapped up all the delicious chocolate first.

But the adorability paint-repellent can't be Penners-dependent, or he'd have to come every time I'm painting, just to prove my kit-kat induced adorability, and he's already said he can't come to St Albans because of the haggis and the feather duster thing. (See "mice" thread.) I offered him prawns and everything. . Oh no, it's all just too complicated.
