Abraham Darby was a Quaker, and Quakers were discouraged from having any images of themselves, so no one knows what he actually looked like - there are no paintings or sculptures and of course he died far too long ago for living memory. The "face" is either a bizarre quirk of the design or a deliberate act by Darby to leave his mark on the bridge - no one knows. That picture makes it look far more obvious than it actually is.

Shropshire I think may have been a clue, being your location, so I plump for Abraham Darby, born in Sedgley, on the Iron Bridge

Now we could be very mean and churlish and knock half a point off Graham's score. Abraham Darby was indeed born in Sedgley but that was Abraham Darby I - it was Abraham Darby III, his grandson, who was born in Coalbrookdale who built the iron bridge. It is presumed to be his face, as above.

Well done for those who recognised Sedlec ossuary, Kutna Hora. It is the one that Ewan Macgregor visited on his bike. I stopped there about ten years ago whilst visiting the impressive cathedral in the main city. The area had rich silver mines, so when adding flying buttresses and concave roof lines cost does not seem to have been a problem.

Ah, now I think I know this one.

This 'faux' cathedral was built not long ago by one Zamky Hrady, from the Bohemian region of the Czech Republic. Zamky came to the UK in the early 1990's to make his fortune as a plumber, but found that his conscientious approach to the work priced him out of the market. Desperate to become wealthy, he returned home and hatched his brilliant plan.

He built this structure, and then (and here's the brilliant part) awarded himself the valley gutter cleaning contract. Needless to say, he's never been out of work since, and can now afford to treat his family in McDonalds three times a week.

That was because it was too easy. Staropramen Hotel Berlin which I believe is in Prague. I think it was the big sign in the picture which gave it away... :roll:

Doesn't look very icy, though. And there's no invisible Aston Martin parked outside (so far as I can see).

Well I've been looking for these clues you have been leaving but have not found much.

The material looks like foam or something similar. It isn't ice or sand or stone as far as can make out. The image is called turret.jpg but that doesn't help much. The ground looks like snow so I'm guessing it is a test piece carved by your son as part of the ice carving thing he was on (if I remember correctly - can't find the old thread).

Doesn't look very icy, though.

Truth be told, my first impression was that the material was like the subterranean dwellings in Morocco or Tunisia that were used in the filming of Star Wars. So if I am forced to suggest a location, then it would have to be Tatooine!

My first thought was sand, but looking at the arch, snow seems more likely. My guess is that it isn't listed.
