In the UK, Christmas deliveries are handled (in the inevitable and perennial absence of the Royal Mail) by FATHER CHRISTMAS.

Penners, I am in agreement with you completely on this. However, it is I fear part of a much larger losing battle against the tide of linguistic abuse from the other side of the pond, as well as other evils such as "text speak".

My kids refer to him as Santa - despite all my valliant efforts to get them to say Father Christmas. The problem is that all their friends say Santa, much of the media says Santa, even Christmas decorations, which are designed for an international market of course, say Santa.

Moo thanks for the kind words. My picture is a bit fuzzy because the exposure had to be so long. I might try taking some more. The tree is so fat that we can hardly sit in the room now!

Not sure what Dickens would make of my modern lithographs - he would probably be appalled. I dont think they really go there, but I think my wife would divorce me if I blew a few terms' worth of school fees on a large antique oil painting to fill the space.

Up to a point, Lord Copper. But if you go back to the green clothes, you also have to lose quite a lot of other things that make up the English Father Christmas (as opposed to Santa)

We did consider this, the iron ring is hung by chains from the rose which has a hook on it. That rose is bolted through the ceiling. It also has a kettle lead socket in it so if we want to take the current lights down and put something else there we can in minutes and again replace just as quickly.
