You know how that came about, of course?:
When four of Santa's elves got sick, the trainee elves did not produce toys as fast as the regular ones, and Santa began to feel the Pre-Christmas pressure.
Then Mrs Claus told Santa her Mother was coming to visit, which stressed Santa even more.
When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two others had jumped the fence and were out, Heaven knows where.
Then when he began to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards cracked, the toy bag fell to the ground and all the toys were scattered.

The angel said very cheerfully, 'Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn't this a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would you like me to stick it?'

And so began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas tree.

Of course it's an angel at the top of the tree, to represent that angel who put mighty dread into the shepherds' troubled hearts about their socks! The same angel who told Mary she was a highly flavoured Quaver.

But angels in the house, in art, in literature go way, way back, as I'm sure you know more than most Mr Hughes. In 1767 Blake went to Peckam Rye and reported seeing "a tree filled with angels, bright angelic wings bespangling every bough like stars."

Thanks for the tip on the photo posting, I was trying to use the attachment function from my hard disc but got the error message. Are you sure you are not being economical with the truth and cropping out the illuminated Santa, Sleigh and Rudolf on the roof ? :lol:

I've made a mental note to use a tape measure before felling next year's tree . . . . er, just like I did last year and duly forgot. And the year before that.

The only erection I'll get this year, given the limited space we have, is a small plug-in jobby. It's a nice shade of pink but comes with rather disappointingly small balls. Still, I can leave it plugged in safely for hours; it won't over-heat, burn out or require constant attention trying to figure out which bit's tripped the whole thing out! I quite like my electric erection; no pulling, tugging, clipping and titivating, no worry of wilt or drop, no mess on the floor, no apologising for the hassle and no worry of any aftermath. Just plug it in and off you go! No cause for a headache and it lasts as long as I like

This is one for the Graham's top tips thread. If you very carefully measure your pipe centres before laying your slate floor and burying the pipes, be very careful to note the website from which you intended to buy your radiators. Otherwise you'll spend fruitless hours searching for radiators that will fit your pipe centres. If your wife erronerously suggests maybe you made a mistake with your measuring, be sure to quickly change the subject. :?

We erected ours on Saturday and are still awaiting the decorating dept to do their stuff.
