I'm fairly minimalist when it comes to fishing gear. Usually just a fishing vest I picked up years ago at a game fair, an old Hardy #4 rod, a couple of fly boxes, an old whicker creel and straw hat. Not too much extra for Salmon; just chest waders and a barbour wading jacket (and much bigger rods of course). I rarely fish in the autumn/winter so I don't need all the survivalist gear that such hardy souls accumulate (and need!).

One fisherman I know has a multicoloured wooly jumper his wife knitted for him. He sits on the river bank while deciding what fly to use and then pulls out strands of appropriately coloured wool from his jumper and uses them to tie a fly there and then. When the jumper is tatty beyond repair, his wife knits him another one.

Many's the time that I've gone down to the river on a summer's evening and not even cast a single fly. Sometimes it's enough to just sit and watch the river. As the old saying goes: "there's more to fishing than catching fish".

Alan Scothorne ( five times world champion) and his wife Sandra ( also ladies worl champion ) are far removed from the world of flyfishing . They are both coarse angling match fishing specialist. The difference in disciplines is similar to,say, car formula one grand prix and the power boat race.

Mostly I think they 'develop' as some folks see me as fair game. I don't think I'm the bully - and I think you might find others don't either - but I do think you are being.

Still, bet you felt so much better for being nasty. Not sure what effect you feel it will have.

Why on earth shouldn't I say I think the latest version of php is grim? Very bad design, not good for those of us with eyesight problems. But of course that doesn't matter. The bloke who designed it - his name is at the bottom of the page I put the link to.

And I have never found you to be much of a saint when it comes to being a spot blue. So don't bother polishing your halo.

As for 'venemous arguments' - I'm usually pretty calm. Tend not to do venom.

Still, I am sure chats about football and fishing have so much more attraction than period property issues.

Now, that is a party which anybody and everybody should be able to enjoy Graham. That I recognise as " normal" life.

Let's face it who wants to balance a cup of tea with a thumb and forefinger with the little finger pointing in mid air in a " cocked" stance, fixed upper lip that appear glued to teeth that look like a streched pianoaccordion Like that Dick Emery pose. If someone behaved and posed in that manner at one of the parties as in the picture as far as I am concerned they should be used as goal posts.
