I would suggest interfering is maybe not too great an idea, when you don't have any idea of what you are interfering in.

But yes - there is far less activity. I know as many of those who don't now post, or do so rarely, tell me why.

Far be it from me to tell you what to do, but I would suggest that some editing of that post would be the healthiest thing for this forum, but I doubt you will realise the wisdom of that either, sadly.

(And yes it should have been 'maybe' but as my eyesight isn't brilliant I at times make typos.)

This forum is in danger of becoming a PR disaster for property conservation (if it hasn't already) due to the sort of exchanges that interested but inexperienced people will come to expect from 'stalwarts' of the movement.

Well, I wondered how long it would take you to pop up. It wouldn't be a show without Punch, as they say.

I agree it could be a disaster - although it keeps going, and has done for quite some time - but I wonder (I say this so very, very gently...) if you ever considered possibly you contribute greatly to its potential downfall? And have contributed to quite a bit of why some aren't too keen now to post? No, maybe not, retrospection, deeper understanding and wider reflection on issues possibly not being your thing? One common denominator? Oh Mr B - how naive, and possibly silly, you are! At least, I hope it's naivety. Or maybe youthful folly.

Dear everybody,

I believe the forum should provide a helpful and practical advice resource for all owners of period properties and everybody is welcome whatever their views.

If anybody is treated in a hostile or derogatory manner it only helps to drive them away, when of course the ultimate aim is to bring them on board to a different way of thinking and the positive benefits of using traditional techniques and materials to repair, maintain and decorate their homes.

To many homeowners the terms and techniques discussed on this site are alien. Therefore we can only move forward by incremental changes in behaviour as individuals take on board new ideas and practices.

If anybody has any views on issues affecting the openness of the forum or if they feel individuals are being put off posting please send me a private message outlining your concerns.

Frankly Rob, from beyond my original and innocent post, about a house requiring a new owner, I think the rest of this spectacle should have been removed pronto. But it wasn't, and I so think that now it's all so soured (and not just this post) that it's becoming beyond recovery for some of us.

There are other places to post about conservation issues, and those of us who are serious about it maybe are going there. Then the people who simply want to display their egos and pursue their own agendas can do it here. It's not a pleasant place to be.
