Tom, if you're invoking Chris Monckton as a serious contributor to climate science I cannot take you seriously. I'm still not quite sure whether you have just misunderstood Schwartz or you are taking the p*ss but I'm now inclining towards the latter.

Margaret Thatcher was the best PM we've had in years. Can't see any reason not to believe anything an advisor to any of the pm's has to say really. Besides, I know a few and they do tell the truth. Whether it's acted on is another matter.

She was certainly one of the Prime Ministers in recent years. How kindly history will treat her legacy remains to be seen.

I used to work with Christopher Monckton. I'm sorry to have to tell you that's he's barking mad, and has made a sort of career out of envisioning the preposterous. He would be the first to advocate extracting sunbeams from cucumbers had he the wit.

I'm quite disappointed! You asked that I stick to the science, yet you refuse to address it; instead you prefer name calling (apparently I take the p*ss). Rather than deal with the actual argument, the data, the calculations, or their implication, you prefer ad hominem abuse. Surely we could at least agree on the _implications_ of the climate sensitivity? The problem of the absence of tropospheric warming (particularly in the tropics) has been known for years. Monkton has just brought it (and its latitude dependence) to our attention graphically. He is clearly a headline seeker, foil of George Monbiot and doubtless a bit eccentric, but he genuinely has a point.

No he doesn't. Monckton is nothing to do with science, nor, we learn from Gervase, even alchemy as he has not the wit to extract sunbeams from cucumbers
It is quite clear that Schwartz's work supports AGW and, Tom, you seem to be misrepresenting his position and drawing absurd conclusions from one of his papers.
Really, the fit purpose of this forum, is not to continue a futile debate with contrarians and deniers, but concentrate our minds on how to care for our built heritage in the light of likely futures as informed by the science. It's all about adapting buildings for use in a low energy and low carbon future without losing that which is of value to our culture and aesthetics.

Tom - I say it again, loudly and clearly - we have had many come to this forum to troll. Some are more sophisticated at it than others. Given enough rope, and with a bit of gentle leading, eventually they reveal what they are with the same manipulation of what people say, accusations of name calling, attempts to make regular forum members seem wrong, set up discord, get all pretendy agitated by vaguely rude words, etc etc. (They also seem unable to spell and have strange punctuation - wonder why?)

What we should be concentrating on and what concerns me is the damage that global warming "improvements" will do to older property.
Saving the planet and destroying all the fabric of older, and not so old, housing will damage "period" housing stock forever.
