For opening paint tins? ( I open paint tins with allsorts of tools!,chisels ,screwdrivers,that pair of scissors with different length blades!)

Mdb was closest. They are 'chase wedges' and used for setting in corners or edges of lead sheet some are old and some new like the larger ones I made for setting in creases in the sheet before laying it. Anyone know what wood they are made from and the name of the funny shaped mallet on the right at the back?

They look like they are made of beech. As for the name of the funny looking one, is it a bossing mallet?. Sorry I cheated - assuming I'm correct.

Nice one Worms, that's exactly what it is, a Tomahawk, and is used where the chase wedges wouldn't be suitable.
If you look at the upstand of the sheets of lead where they meet the wood core rolls you can see a slight 'bubbles' of lead where it hasn't been dressed down to a finish yet. This bubble is surplus lead waiting to be moved towards the other side of the rolls where more lead is needed to finish off the overcloak and a tomahawk would be used by us 'old fashioned' plumbers rather than the rubber mallets the new generation use. I secretly came around to using rubber ones after I had poo pooed them as no good and I used them with my back turned so that they wouldn't see me using one. :lol:
This job has been left behind for later as it is weather proof and, at the time, a temporary roof to cover the church was out of the question because of cost, so we had to cover exposed areas as we went along to ensure no ingress of water into the church below.

and some of the new fangled rubber ones which you can see are well used! The dressers with leather and rubber faces I used for work where I didn't want to mark the lead to much.

The chase wedges are made from box which has a very tight grain and withstands being hit by other wooden mallets very well. I bought a pallet load years ago from someone who didn't know what it was and it was very large diameter so very useful to me!

That's an obvious one, it's one of those toe separators for when you have a pedicure and get the nails painted, this was obviously custom made for someone with very skinny but widely spaced digits.

That's right MdB it's for checking the thickness of lead sheet from the smallest up it measures Code 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8. In my younger day ( :roll: ) we measured lead sheet by it's weight per square foot and it just so happens that a square foot of lead weighing 8lbs (pounds) is just about an eighth of an inch thick and proportionally so down through the weights per sq ft.
I've used code 9, 10 and 12 lead on parapet gutters on historic properties where it has been impractical to introduce drips or joints because of other considerations such as stonework, roofing timbers and coverings and catchpits or outlets etc. I've used that thickness of lead for cisterns and garden ornaments to save casting it myself.

I reckon this topic has run it's course so I'll knock it on the head, pity as I've found a few more. Anyway this last Whatsit is a pipe clamp used to hold butt jointed pipes still while a solder joint is wiped around it.
I've now transferred loads of pictures of leadwork onto the pc with the scanner Santa brought me, especially rainwater heads and pipes along with some other things I've done in the past. Is there enough interest in this? Opinions gratefully received. :lol:

Not quite Penners. It's another one of those old plumbers tools and it's the first one I've ever seen in the flesh so to speak. Seen pictures of them in the old plumbing books.

I had missed the picture, what a lovely fountain, I bet an elephant head would make a good design too :lol: ...... I think our garden wall has plumbing and electricity for one ( the people we bought from had something, but took it away ).
