I'm going to call it iron wood as that covers an awful lot of different types...

They are Lignum Vitae and are mandrels which when driven through a lead pipe help to push out any dents and re-round the pipe if it has flattened out at all. Good guess mardinor.

I used to have sets to suit all sizes. Ones with tapered ends to either expand the pipe to form a socket and others to dress the end of a pipe to form a spigot.

Later. I forgot to say that there seem to be two types of Lignum. Whether they are form different parts of the tree or not I don't know. The darker one on the left is the more uncommon one while the two coloured one is quite usual. The last lot of new Lignum I had the wood was very green coloured.

Right again Onetap, they are indeed seaming irons used predominantly on 'hard' metal roofing such as copper, zinc, stainless steel etc to aid forming seams or welts in the material.

Nice one Milady. I missed that! The tools are for turnips and mangles and other root crops for topping and tailing them as they were pulled from the ground. I still have a scar on my left hand fore finger where I sliced a flap of skin open and because of the freezing conditions at the time didn't know I done it. :shock:
