How the heck did you manage to get through the tons of no more nails? Tha's what has been used in my kitchen to stick the tiles to the walls :x

Luckily, in my case the no more nails was used to attach MDF panels onto smooth white tiles, so it parted company quite easily. If it had stuck well then the tiles it was attached were then in turn attached to wallpaper - so the wallpaper came away instead.

I absolutely love these stories of layer upon layer- isn't it fascinating? And you look at it and just think "Now what made you think that was going to be nice?" I wonder who'll be looking at our schemes in 100 years...and what they'll think. :?

Here there appear to be only 4 schemes in 200+ years. I know it was last done in the 1980s, and prior to that the 40s or 50s.

I think the farming folk of Lincolnshire thought decorating was a bit poncy, but, someone's had a good go at fake wood graining at some point.

I feel guilty to strip it all back!

Although its annoying at times i must admit to being fascinated at findings in old houses, i am always careful when taking off wallpaper as you never know what you may find underneath the top layer..the more layers you go down the more exciting it gets.
Unless of course its the dreaded fake marble panelling hiding plastic wall tiles stuck to wallpaper! luckily it was all so bloomin old it didnt take much to remove it, that coupled with a strong husband ... hehe he did it not me... hence the reason for me saying it didnt take much!...Moi? i was too busy getting a quote for the lime mortar pointing to be done ......£15-20k :roll: :roll:

Its grade 2* listed and has 6 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, 4 reception rooms, kitchen, dining room, library and top floor self contained 2bed apartment... so bigger than average but not huge.The problem we have is it has needed pointing for a while, the previous owners had a penchent for using expandable foam rather than lime mortar!

We also had fake wood grain at one point, but from the position and quality I suspect that it was applied more than a hundred years ago. I'd like to keep it on the stairs, if only I can find something that will take the gloss off the top without causing damage.

I removed ( :shock: ) and preserved a number of wallpaper fragments during our recent works, ranging from madly psychedelic through distatestful to some rather simple but elegant earlier examples. Must be 5 or 6 different papers.

Has anyone found an online resources covering the history of UK wallpapers and perhaps enabling me to identify some of them?
