Why bother removing the binding? It will still be there intact when you scatter (or seive) the compost and you can just lift it out. I've had no problems with the yellow pages on the compost - worms love them!

Of course you have to take the long view - good compost can't be rushed!

In a past incarnation I used to do a lot of work with the Forestry Commission (who trained me to use a chainsaw).

In all seriousness, be warned. The FC have a saying: "There is no such thing as a slight accident with a chainsaw."

In untrained hands, they can be very dangerous.

When I lived in China a little man used to come around with a hand cart every morning to collect the pee - everyone keeps it in a jug and pours it into a tank on the cart - I have no idea where it goes - presumably thats why the Chinese army is such a scarey international threat..?????

We do use recycled beer on the compost, in general we make very good compost... I just find Yelow Pages a pain.

Fi Glover was talking about straw bale urinals on Radio 4 Saturday Live yesterday. Some friends of ours constructed one out of plastic sheet, and guttering leading to strawbales, for a large outdoor wedding party in the summer.

Probably in the cloth industry - pee has been used in fulling since Roman times at least - read Lindsey Davies "Falco" series for well researched historical fiction - Falco lived over a fullers.

My (very traditionalist) parents bought me a real Harris Tweed sports jacket when I was about 13. It lasted for ever - mainly due to the fact that I never wore it. The tweed was so chunky I could barely move in it.
