Mr P - you are all kindness and consideration , but I most definitely do want to go ahead with the jollifications. A party is just what we need, and Nigel and joss make some excellent points there!

The effect of the burglary has been to make me not want to leave the house at all. So kind company is extraordinarily welcome.

I am having grave doubts about the weather and a BBQ though. Is it just me, or is there that nip of autumn in the air? I think I'd best prepare for an indoor party too, just to be on the safe side.

I don't know what it's like in Lincs, but here in Norwich it's not so much a nip as a drip in the air. Yesterday began very wet indeed, but by lunch-time we were basking in sunshine. Today, however, it's been chucking it down on and off all day.
I intend to arrive at the party equipped with waterproofs and golfing brollies.

I have decided on a Georgian theme. If the forecast is terrible we'll ditch the BBQ altogether, and make do with game pie, syllabub, and sack.

I wouldn't worry too much about the weather two weeks hence; it's August, and almost anything can happen between now and then. Anyway, Moo has the right idea - and spirit.

Shame I'll be be in Wales though - that's almost certain to be wet!

Sorry Mr P, but they turned out fine,no rain,everybody turned up with plenty of meat and drink in interesting bottles! the sun shone,mini motorbike in the garden and boating on the river,lots of cake and everybody "mucked in" with the cooking and washing up.A tour of the house for a few of them may result in a few more PP owners!phil.

I have decided on a Georgian theme

The lead time for my projects is usually at least a year from inception to beginning work, let alone finishing so my Georgian outfit is not likely to be ready on time I fear. My ordinary clothes are so out of fashion I suppose they might just pass as George VI.

I have a pair of trousers under construction, the prototype of which (in curtain lining rather than worsted) is so tight and strangely cut it might just pass as early 19th C though the design comes from a book publised in 1928. Even these are unlikely to be finished on time.

You won't be able to stop at the trousers, you'll need the coat, hat, cane ...

It may just be myself and Mr Juju in period costume - I've ordered my dress, blue silk taffeta with puff sleeves and empire waist. I'm a bit stuck for stays though, the corsetry is critical.

The perfect reason to order one of these ! I really wish I was going to be around, any excuse to look for a new frock! although I could be tempted to a pair of those trousers and a lovely frilly shirt for a bit of dress up time.

Actually I kid you not. I have a new Russian sister in law, who was previously a nightclub manageress in Russia. One night we were drunkenly discussing some of the less pleasant characters I work with and she leaned across the table and in hushed tones, very seriously said "Robin, if you want anything doing, and I mean anything just let me know. I know lots of people". :shock:

Other than that, she is utterly adorable!
