I hope people remember to take some pictures of the gathering today. In anticipation I thought I would start a thread where they could be shared, not that I am nosey, or impatient of course.

Wow, what a wonderful feast and fabulous house!

After weaving romantic thoughts of a Dowager Aunt from one of the neighbouring stately piles being snugly esconsed in the elegant little building I then thought -hm- more likely to have been a hunting lodge----- that might account for the wonderful larder below ground----- and in the middle of some pretty ancient forestry-- it seems to have been built to impress important people rather than house just the gamekeeper----I wonder.

Well, those of you who couldn't make it to Joce & Chris's beautiful home yesterday missed a very special day, and a superb lunch. Dear Joce had gone to so much trouble for us all - the house and garden were looking wonderful (as was she in a very Bronte-esque gown), and even the chickens had obviously been washed and blow-dried for the event.

Am I making you jealous? Oh, I'm SO sorry..... :wink:

Right, here are some photos of the event in progress.

First, our charming hostess demonstrates the consummate skill with which she can plunge a knife into flesh:

Some of the gentlemen took luncheon in the withdrawing room (actually the music room), free from flibberty-gibbet chit-chat:

Ok then, i'll be brave, pleased you all enjoyed yourselves, (I was busy staining my floorboards -somebody in the county had to do some work. First coat of osmo is currently drying)

If anyone comes round here, I have to hoover the old limeplaster dust out of the cups, before I make a cuppa

On the Celtic side of the country, we were far too busy for such frivolity, yes i'm still jealous.

I spent the whole afternoon repointing the side of the house, whilst my other half was on his boat in Pembrokeshire, apparently he was cleaning it and doing essential maintainence.

Where have I gone wrong ?

Sorry, Alex, but you've go entirely the wrong end of the stick. It was because there were several areas which attracted such comments that the house was so fascinating. We were able to see before and after, as we wandered from room to room.

So that's your "no entertaining" excuse blown out of the water. :wink:

Thankyou for posting the pics Mr P! You are an absolute treasure, and I loved seeing you and your lovely wife again. I'm about to have the last little bit of her delicious salmon for my tea - mmmm.

Like Alex I felt very self concious about the shabbiness and state of some of the rooms, and plumbing problems. ( we need to have a lot of work done this week on valves to sort out the flow into the cistern, so sorry about that slow filling - I nearly asked you all to wee in the garden but it was too windy. )

But everyone was so kind, and accepting, and paid hyperbolic compliments so I ended the day thinking I live in a little castle rather than the shabby side of chic servants' house it is. I hope others will feel encouraged to have more ppuk gatherings after this !
