Fantastic news, and what a recovery in quite a short timescale as well. Let's hope the good progress continues!

But I'm sure that Middi's not like that.

I don't understand that point about short term memory though, the medics seem to have missed the fact that Middi is a man. I have been married to His Lordship for quite some time and memory seems to be extremely selective at the medium and long term level and almost non existent in the short term. Since most of my female friends have similar experiences I can only assume it is just a natural male condition and nothing to do with being poorly :wink:

Very perceptive LadyA. Women are of course quite different - their memory is still extremely selective, especially on certain topics. However they are in many ways rather like computers, in that your tiniest mistake is always safely stored away for later retrieval at an appropriate or inappropriate moment, depending on your perspective. :wink:

Mrs FF is at work today so I forwarded the news to her and got an email five minutes later saying she was in tears. Soppy female reaction of course whereas I just happened to have a bit of dust in my own eyes . . .

I'm not surprised about the short term memory loss. Mrs FF had a nasty accident many years ago (nay decades, before she was Mrs FF in fact) and was sedated for a few weeks because she had to be on a ventilator. When she came round she also had short term memory loss and would repeatedly ask the same questions such as 'what day is it' etc because she couldn't remember the answer, but the doctors said such a thing was not unexpected so not to worry and it would improve - which it did fairly quickly. I still maintain she was never quite right though as she still married me!

Muscles also very quickly lose their strength if not used for any length of time and Mrs FF couldn't stand or walk for a while; not because of any injury but simply from lack of strength. The physiotherapists soon sorted that out though and her strength was fairly quickly rebuilt. The good thing about this stage was that progress was very tangible, which creates far more positive feelings all around and is a helpful thing in itself.

I am a big fan of jazz music, and jazz guitar particularly enthuses me. The story of Pat Martino, one of the greats of jazz guitar, and a living legend some might say, is most uplifting. Maybe it can be of encouragement to Middi and his family.

But we want Middi back to helping to restore period property! I'm sure playing jazz guitar would be loads of fun, but it isn't going to be much use to the newbies with their damp problems is it? Or have I somehow missed the point :lol:

Ha ha, well maybe Middi will be restored back to his position of period property expert, and jazz guitar prodigy!

The point was that Pat Martino suffered a brain aneurism, had surgery, lost his memory but through listening to his old records re learned to play guitar. Many say he is a better player now than before his trauma, and he was considered a prodigy before! I saw some similarities and wish for a similar outcome for Middi!!

If relearning the skills he already knew worked for this jazz chap, then I think that at some stage in his recovery, middi should be moved from the hospital ward to an old house with rotten sole plates and damp in the walls and told to get on with it!

This is the best news isn't it! How lovely to read this! I think Middi is a very tough brave strong Italian man and would not let a little thing like a brain aneurysm and a coma cast him down for too long. :wink: We look forward to more news of progress and send all love and best wishes!

I find it verging on the miraculous that Mrs P is able to remember quite clearly that (in a fit of desperately worried absent-mindedness)I lost a ring of hers while she was in hospital bearing our firstborn (42 years ago), but appears to have complete amnesia when it comes to the tablet computer that she dropped into her (full) bath a mere month ago.

My memory is so bad already, Mrs F dreads to think what I'll be like by the time old age really arrives! Forgetting my own birthday is a regular occurrence - about once a year, strangely enough - my birthday always comes as a nice surprise this way though.

I haven't yet forgotten Mrs F's birthday, or our wedding anniversary, recurring appointments in Outlook have their uses 8)

Anyway, hasn't Middi got a simply fantastic excuse now every time he forgets something? He can milk this one for years I reckon!!

A good idea, but might it not be more encouraging if we could convince him that he had already done most of the hard work ( you know like the external insulation and render and cutting in a new DPM )? So that the things left to do ie some kitchen work and internal fitting out etc, were the pleasurable aspects of the renovation? You wouldn't happen to know of a place like that would you?

Great news! It sounds like his recovery so far has been very much helped by his family and friends which will surely continue. Look forward to hearing of him getting back on his feet again.
