I wish Middi all the best for a speedy recovery.

A bit of gentle mickey-taking on your messages to him is fine - I (tentatively!) did that on my message that I emailed to her earlier, as well as checking with her that the humour is not inappropriate, and she's confirmed he'd love that.

I echo what Feltwell has said. I've sent an email to Middi via Adriana, his daughter, which said: "I knew those dodgy jokes of yours on PPUK would come back to haunt you, so don't say I didn't warn you." Probably very tasteless, but she has confirmed that he would love it.

He's a super guy - when I met him (thanks to Flyfisher) he and I were both in the middle of major restoration jobs on our daughters' homes (his considerably more extensive than mine), so we had lots to talk and joke about.

Very sad news. I've never met Middi but he looks like a tough old bugger who'll get through this. A friend of mine did - just takes time. Hang in there.

That's very sad news. I've never met him but he is extremely knowledgeable and has been very free with his advice. I distinctly remember him as being very helpful with some of my queries. Very much hope he can get through this and be back to his old self as soon as possible.

Shocking news indeed.

He has been a huge help to me and my family during our total restoration - a genius when it comes to period properties, but also so generous with his own time.

I do hope he is on the road to recovery and look forward to seeing good news posted here, by himself, very soon.

Middi's wife Susan has emailed to ask me to post a thank you to everyone for their kind posts and their emails to Middi's family. They continue to read out everyone's kind words to Middi, whilst praying for his recovery.

Hopefully, Middi himself will be posting us all an update soon. Unfortunately, for now, he remains in a coma.

Our thoughts are with Middi and his family.

Thanks Dan, I have shared with some folks in "the other place" too in case they don't visit here that often. I know we are all keeping Middi in our thoughts.

I received an email earlier today from Middi's wife, Susan, asking me to pass on her thanks for all the kind messages the family has received from PPUKers and to let you all know they are reading them all to him. Middi's transfer to the UK went well and doctors are currently carrying out various tests to assess his condition and Susan says she will keep me updated regarding his progress.

We try and maintain the illusion that it is a lot more exciting than it really is. Shhhhhhhh, it's only Facebook! A few of us that have met in real life because of PPUK are on it and are "friends" there. Other people don't have/ want an account so only post here, and a couple of folks got too busy with other things to spend time here but are still around on FB. So we are trying to share info both places and make sure news gets around. Support for the family is so important, and Middi deserves our very best.

I'll await reports from you Flyfisher on Middi's wellbeing, it'll save Susan replying too may times, but will continue to let her have the odd new anecdote to hopefully bring a smile to good old Middi's lips.

Actually, it's his family who are most in need of our sympathy and good wishes - Middi is, for the time being, in a state of blissful ignorance.

True Moo, but it does get a bit down having to write the same old email to lots of people about his condition, whereas if we all keep sending cheery emails with messages for Middi, it will hopefully lift the gloom, besides, we really don't know if Middi can hear them or not, we hope he can!
