Oven for Christmas! - which one?

I'd like it to be red!

This one is made by a firm called Baumatic. I dont know how good they are. No curves however.

Mine is a NEFF (stainless steel) and perfectly functional. I used to have a Belling which I think was red, but they dont seem to do that colour any more.

If my oven had to look like a woman I am not sure who I would choose.

Jane Fonda perhaps?

Can't say too much more as my session here at the library is about to time out, and there's a great queue of ne'er-do-wells behind me. Yes, I've officially become a tramp, as the electricity at home has ceased to function so I'm off to do my washing in the stream and sleep in a ditch which will be significantly warmer than my newly decorated bedroom.

It's another thread drift, from new ovens to old boilers. I've got the same picture upstairs to use when the kids won't get to bed on time.

Joce I LOVED the pink one, but I too have a dislike of the type of oven with a grill inside the oven compartment, and have been struggling with one since we moved here 20 months ago, cant wait to get rid of it ! Good luck with the search, that P C is wonderful Penners ! :lol: :lol: :lol:

Some of you may be pleased to hear ( :evil: ) that I'm not getting my William Morris cooker. Chris, marginally more sensible - is forcing me to have a plain boring white Neff. I may have to burn his dinner for evermore. :twisted:

I did listen to what you guys were saying about the grill not being as good when it's inside a single ove, but when I looked at the double ovens in John Lewis (at our price range) I realised you miss out on space in the main compartment. If I hope to cook for Moo, Penners,Nigel, Robin, Cloudscape, Abi, FF, Jon Maine, jocelyn plummer, MdB, DWB, 'Marm, Fluff, skier-hughes, Feltwell, worms, Dave Brigg, robgil, Biff, Pford, judrop and phil, the Matts, Gareth, I am going to need a MONSTER oven.

In the end an oven is a tool and the most beautiful tools arent always the best. I have a totally gorgeous late 19th/early 20th C rosewood infilled smoothing plane with brass fittings and massively thick cast steel blade. It's good, but not as good as my modern Lie Nielsen:

In my experience the grill in a Neff oven works fine. The trick is to turn the temperature to maxium well in advance and vary the intensity of the heat by rasing or lowering the grill pan.

Space was limited in our kitchen so rather than going for a double oven or oven plus grill we supplemented the oven with a dual cook microwave (ie one that can work as an oven, a microwave or both). The microwave is used mainly for reheating leftovers and making porridge but stands in as a reserve oven when doing any heavy duty entertaining.

Nigel - thanks for encouragement, yes, it's true that beauty and function are not equally balanced generally.

I agree with your tips on managing the grill - I had a Neff single oven with grill inside for years and loved it- far preferred it to the Rayburn actually, which is too small to do a proper dinner with pudding.

I'll now have the Rayburn, the hob on top of my Viccy fire thing, the electric cooker, a microwave and a BBQ. Hopefully that'll do.

Christmas food can now go ahead =peas pudding, baked ham, Christmas pudding (Christmas Eve) potted smoked salmon, roast goose with prune and apple stuffing, parmesan glazed parsnips, roast potatoes, bacon wrapped chippolatas, chestnut stuffing, bread sauce, pear and panettone pudding (Christmas lunch), + canapes, etc.
