I think it'll keep the roots out for good now, or at least for good as far as I'm concerned! It wasn't as badly blocked as I thought it was, the drain man's camera pictures were a bit deceptive, made it look worse than it was. Still worth doing though, it would have blocked within a couple of years I reckon.

I don't mind. I'd hate to be in an all-male environment. Even at University, studying Engineering which is inevitably male-dominated, I lived with the girls from my course as the "token bloke". I like female company.

You do know that the movie 'The Stepford Wives' was not a drama, right?. It was in fact a very canny piece of propaganda designed to convince the male population that we were the protagonists while the feminine conspirators got to work programming us.

For ages I didn't bother with my own facebook account, I used my wife's, which lead to friends determining that we were in fact the same person. As I pointed out, varying in height by a foot at will is a neat trick, but the 3 kids that all look like me is an even better one!

Being serious for a moment, it's poor that the gender balance on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) subjects at universities does not seem to have improved in the 30 years since I was at one. My daughter is at Sheffield studying Physics, she's very much in the minority, and that seems to be the case everywhere.

How much of this should we accredit to biological differences Feltwell? Maybe the imbalance exists because many women just aren't that interested in STEM.

Fair enough! Its interesting to me how society leans toward either biology or social constructs whenever it suits.

I’m not sure that’s even true. Historically women were very often the herbalists, healers, midwives and repositories of important knowledge for survival. Sadly that often made them easy targets for accusations of “witchcraft” borne of jealousy or pure ignorance. I have only occasionally encountered the attitude of “you’re a female you can’t know anything even vaguely technical“ but it is unfortunately still alive and well out there.

My experience from the 90s is pretty much the same. I shared a house with the only woman who was on our course full time. Also stayed in touch with her over the years, to an extent. I also work in a mixed office, and prefer it to a gender dominated office (male or female).
