Sorry to hear about the knee, fingers crossed for a speedy recovery!
Sadly we are re-doing the garage to split it into 2/3 workshop and 1/3 office - will be needing to make a lot of penetrations to run services etc, might get away with encapsulating for the workshop side, but will probably have to be removal for the office bit, grrrrr.
And the scaffolders who were here today, assumed my back door opened inwards, when it doesn't so now it is unusable for the next 4 weeks thanks to some annoyingly placed uprights... :roll:

I can only grump about frosts. They have come earlier this year than in recent years. I've only got 7 days to go on the garden wall and have a lot of hessian to cover it so hopefully I'll be fine. This is the second time I've still been doing lime outside in November.

When they unsplint you and Mrs Feltwell wants to put you back to work I can recommend some special trousers which have a place to put kneepads inside. The decorators had them and said much more comfortable than other sort. I’ve been thinking of some for gardening, but our garden such as it is is raised beds, so not really necessary. Get well soon

Trousers with kneepad pockets is a good idea. I've got a couple of pairs of strap-on kneepads but they're awful, the straps always bunch up in the crease behind the knee, plus they fall down as you walk, I've never got on with them. I've got plenty of kneeling pads but inevitably they aren't always where you want to kneel, and well, I'll only be a minute at most so it's not worth going and getting one........

When I had "normal" strap on knee pads I have found duck taping the knee pads in place to trousers very effective.
These days I have the in trouser type which are not bad.

Took me a few moments to recall the label of this thread and had tp work through searches on 'Grumble', 'Grouch' and others before, without reaching for my Thesaurus, I alighted on 'Grouch... of the Day'. But thats only incidental to my desire to locate and add to this topic and not the thrust of my current irritation.
That dubious honour falls to the phenomena termed 'Cascading Failure' frequently referenced after a disaster to explain how one simple fault can induce a chain of failures that ultimately produces that catastrophe. Over the last couple of years I've traced and seemingly repaired a series of electrical faults displayed by my ride-on brush-cutter, including the following: -
Surprise, surprise, when I turned the key the engine revs picked up so I quickly turned the key back to the run position and it ran happily enough for me to get the machine back to its shed. Sooooo, a dud ignition switch at root of this most recent problem but.... was it the cause of some/all of the earlier failures? We'll soon see I guess.

- a flickering oil pressure warning light.
- a safety switch that should have stopped the engine if I got out of the seat.

Most recent debacle, junior planning officer said yes and it would just need a rubber stamp from the senior.
She then emailed an hour later saying senior disagreed and would we like to extend while we reconsider the scope of our proposal?
We replied within 10 minutes saying “Yes, we will extend by two weeks please”.
20 minutes later the senior planning officer emailed to say we had been refused.
10 minutes after that we had an email from the junior officer saying we couldn’t extend as the decision had been issued…
Unreal.

They are a PITA. The planning departments are on service targets, "We will issue a decision within X weeks" - I have heard on good authority that if they are up against that target time, they will just refuse the PP so they meet their target - after all, they have issued a decision......
Been waiting on a local gas engineer to come and service my vintage Baxi back boiler. Takes one look at it and says "Oooo, you are missing a grommet round this. Part obsolete, so going to have to slap an at risk notice on it". Without even checking that the part is available, he then proceeds to cut the gas pipe, cap it, and remove a valve.
Yes, the part is obsolete, but a two minute search turned up several sources of the £4 part. Now going to cost me best part of £4,000 to replace the flippin' boiler, just as the weather is starting to turn cold.

Can you appeal? I’ve seen things reversed by the reviewing officer, who may well be someone from elsewhere
The follow up chat with the local authority basically consisted of “we will never approve out of principle no matter what changes you make” so we have given up with them.
We have appealed to the planning inspector via the services of a “reassuringly expensive” planning lawyer
