Rebuilding now finished - was intending to take some pics and post, but it's been rather inclement here today :evil:
Spent most of the day up the scaffold, stripping paint (and the skin from my nose....must invest in a balaclava). Whole front facade is now stripped, on to the West Wing

Did you see a chap in a fetching tweed outfit in the stands? Word from another place is that one of our members has been persuaded to a season ticket for a certain North London club. Unfortunately he wasn't able to find suitable clothing on the team supporters website. I took the liberty of suggesting a rather splendid hoodie, the better to blend with the fellows he would encounter, but I think he decided against!

I think you'll find that all forms of cutlery, silver or otherwise, is frowned upon at such venues. It tends to get used for impromptu surgery.

Great-looking job. May I ask why the difference in the capping styles?
Also, I'm a little surprised to see the flint extending to ground level, although I presume it's an identical match for the original wall. I'm not sure why I'm surprised really, just that I'd expect a course, or two of bricks below the flints. Is it possible there is such a course, but the pavement has been built up over the years?

The capping differs on the two walls to match the adjoining sections. We have a wall run to the East of the gate which runs for apx. 16 panels and has the half round capping....whilst the wall to the West is the black capping.
As for the flint...you are right...this is to match the previous wall and the adjoining sections. The pavement has certainly built up over the years, but there was no evidence of any footings/foundations or any brick courses at the base. We did install a concrete foundation, with reinforced steel rods extending up into the wall. We also argued the case for a couple of courses of bricks (and even, dare I say it...for the mortar to be cement - since breathability is not an issue here). This was primarily because the rain splash from the road will result in more rapid deterioration of the wall and I don't want the expense of having to rebuild/repoint every few years...but this did not receive a favourable response....so we reinstated as was....and in lime mortar
