Done - a large soakaway has just been installed in the garden (lawns are a mess now) and the road drains have been diverted.

Just got back from a spell abroad and couldn't park on my own driveway for builders cars/lorries and piles of flint/earth etc. Quite a nice feeling though...

So, are the squarish lumps, in the wall near the bottom middle, flint in it's* raw state or something else altogether?

The wall is a mixture of brick and flint (with seemingly no pattern, just whatever was lying to hand shoved into the wall). The centre of the wall was rubble/carstone infill.

Not - the apostrophe to denote a contraction trumps that to denote possession. It's = it is, its = belonging to it.

Builders have been working the weekend on my flint wall....starting to take shape and looking lovely

Son assisting with porch demolition also became site photographer today. Not going to complain as it was so nice to have another pair of hands.....it's surprising how strong he is.

He gave his time and support to Dad, so Dad, find somehting just for the two of you to do-- fishing, cycle ride, long walk , whatever--- bit of bonding-- ( NO PUN INTENDED), it's togetherness and teamwork that counts.

My 2 eldest children gave me a hand moving a big pile of bricks last weekend - carrying 1 brick at a time in their toy wheelbarrow! Very sweet, but then they are only 4 and 6 respectively. Reward was an ice lolly each and watching the chase sequence from The Italian Job* on video just before bedtime.

*The proper original 1960's version with the Remy Julienne stunt team, not the recent American rubbish. My kids love watching the "cheeky minis", as they call them.

Thanks for the ideas and the kind comments about the wall.

Greg has decided that he would like to go karting at Snetterton (which is quite close to us), so a boys day car racing is planned. Gem of a comment tonight

"I'm glad we've got an old house, because mending it can be quite fun.....and I don't mind my bedroom being cold in the Winter".

Our grandsons recently gave grandad a hand with stacking the winter log supply.

As a reward they didn't have to go up any chimneys that day.
