Thought I should post some sort of update as it's been a wee while.
Some fairly tedious stuff not really worthy of photos.
I think we have now finished retrofitting dpc under all the old internal walls and some of the external ones in an attempt to tie the new build extensiony bits with the old house Taking a few bricks out at a time (God bless recip saws!) rolling the damp proof out and popping the bricks back. Great fun and somewhat time consuming.
The other interesting bit was finding one of the upstairs floors was pretty much balancing on half a brick and a door frame
Not a great photo I'm afraid...
But after a lot of rubble making and swearing we have it sat nice and securely on a lump of steel now.
Sadly the whole wall needs repointing at the very least
We do at least feel that most of the remedial work is nearly done. Well, nearly-ish. Still two upstairs floors to replace
Spent the last couple of days chiseling two to three inches ofdamp bonding and plaster off the walls. No chance of shifting the black jacked concrete skim without destroying the bricks - flipping stuff is like steel plate!
We thought there was light at the end of the tunnel. Turned out it was a train
Ah, the Chesterfield.
Mum gave it to us when we moved in as a sacrificial sofa. The bully (English Bull Terrier or if you are unfamiliar, think bullseye in Oliver Twist) had removed the guts from said sofa and rendered it pretty uncomfortable without covering it in copious amounts of blankets and cushions.
When we started pulling the house apart we left it in there for the builders tea breaks, and in there it has remained.
The wife wants to put it in the garden and fill it with concrete to use as a garden seat. I remain unconvinced
Just finished cleaning up and repairing a bedroom fireplace. It still needs a repoint though. And maybe a little sooting of the replaced bricks
This is the only before photo I can find, but I'm sure you get the idea.
First update of the year. Nothing too exciting
Finally finished prepping some of the walls to allow us to get some stud back up. This included reinstating airbricks, pointing, removing rotten bits of wood and replacing with brick, permanent vent for stove, moving floor joists and blah blah blah which seemed to go on forever
So, prepped wall shot downstairs.
Painstakingly installed membrane, fingers crossed it works  One of the corners is still pretty damp regardless of ground level and anything else we can think of hence the plastic. Hopefully it will dry out over time but we need to push on a little.
The membrane goes all the way up in one sheet - great fun to do! Belt and braces round here. And a big ol' pile of celotex pitched up last thing today so popped a couple of bits in to impress wifey
I've mentioned it on another thread, but wall structure will end up as membrane/celotex/stud with celotex infill. Not very periody but will hopefully save a few shekles on heating in the future. Speaking of which, we've canned the idea of underfloor and are going with rads for better or worse.
Thanks Mickey. Fingers crossed we're OK on the water front.....
A little progress for you - although it's been pretty slow going.
New floor in what was the bathroom. The original floor had a four inch drop from walking in to the outside wall
We also had to remove the old brick wall as it was all loose for want of a better word. This has reinforced the fact that I'm no bricky, but we just couldn't get hold of our builders as they are flat out elsewhere. Needs must and all that.
And starting to get the new joists and stud walls into the old lounge.
Jackpoint, good to see you are ploughing on with your project Our last house was considered uninhabitable when we moved in  - and it was a real labour of love as we did the lion's share ourselves. Having come out safely the other side, so to speak, I can assure your efforts will be worth it in the end.....
Progress! After having to grind an inch or so off a few square meters of the slab (delightful job) and chucking self levelling (Thanks Matt!) on the rest we've managed to get one of the downstairs floors in
Obligatory celotex.
Then more membrane and some chippity chippyboard - 'cos I can't lay screed and it's gained us a couple of inches of height. Oh, and it's saved a few quid too which is a bonus given the price of the celotex underneath
Next stop is more floor fun, and rumour has it we will see a sparky next week.......but breath is currently not being held.
