That sounds great, Juju! Mrs P and I were actually in Witney last week. We thought about seeing if we could scrounge a cup of coffee, but we had too little time.

Oh you and Mrs P would have been very welcome! I'd have been embarrassed by the state of our house though - we haven't done any work on it for so long and even the cleaning is a bit hit and miss now. Still we're all used to living in chaos on this forum... I intend to start working my way through all the half-started decorating in 2 weeks time (when various work commitments are out of the way). Mr Juju has even promised to sand the hall floor soon - he keeps saying 'when are we having the PPUK party - we must have the hallway finished by then' Hmmm - I wish that was the only job that needs finishing! Also, most visitors enter by the back door (as parking is out the back) and generally stay in the kitchen so they don't really notice the hallway...

Yes Joce we thought the combination of all the Bank Holidays and needing another month for the jobs means June looks much better. If I can just finish at least one room and the garden redesign by then I'll be delighted. I can't wait to have all your expert opinions on our house - not that it's particularly exciting but we have a few nice original features like the hall and landing panelling, beams, flagstone floor etc. I'm a bit embarrassed by how we've neglected the windows, guttering etc so I'll apologise in advance for them!

We all know that a period property takes at least twenty-five years to do, and then needs doing all over again, so not to worry. Redesign the garden? I hope you mean just a plan, not change the whole thing by then? Sounds like you're setting yourself up for a very difficult challenge!

I did mean doing the whole garden redesign - not just the plan! Eeek! Actually we have a small garden so it will be hard work but not as major as it sounds. I'm hoping to spend loads of time on it as soon as the weather perks up. It's really just digging up lawn and doing loads of planting (and painting the sheds). Mind you, it's the cost of it that worries me most as we need so many new plants and nice trellis, arbours, some kind of stone feature/statue etc.

Then, when we descend on you for the party, we'll know exactly what to bring with us.

As you know from seeing it the garden is here is large, old, wild, overgrown. I'm in the process of stripping it in order to completely redesign - painful, drastic work but I want a formal garden with symmetry, topiary etc not a wild flower nature garden. I have literally hundreds of plants to dig up.
Most common here is aquilegia columbine, Lenten rose, wild ramsoms, and holly trees - so if you want any of those let me know.

What a lovely suggestion Moo! I'd be delighted to receive spare lovely plants from your lovely gardens. I'm going for a woodland/naturalistic style (loosely following Robinson's ideas of late 1800s/early 1900s or rather how others interpreted his mad ideas) and with arches, obelisks, arbours etc My favourite coloured plants are pinks and purples.

Joce - we were at Hanbury Hall (NT) at the weekend and thought of you - both Mr Juju and I thought you would like the formal garden there. I love a formal garden but it wouldn't suit our funny slopey small garden but I could picture it with your lovely house.
