Gosh, Moo's first is an interesting thread.
I remember Chris found it, picked the user name "joceandchris" and I promptly stole it! He found it because we were trying to research about damp proofing, having been told all our interior plaster needed to come off and chemicals injected.
Thank God we did, and what a brilliant mine of information it's proved to be ever since, as well as friendship.

Yes, I was, and I remember the furore about the change - but the original site had been going strong for quite a while before I found it.
But what escapes me is how I found it. I'm sure it wasn't the result of googling. Or word of mouth.
Could it have been a reference in a magazine?
I dunno. That's why I'm so curious about other people's memories.

I used to post under the same name years ago, I remember Evelyn, Grimmers and Hildewotsit. I was a bit of an imposter as we were renovating a 1970s house Then I drifted away for a while, on my return I found the forum had gone all posh and I had to register again.

I was trying to locate old forum posts with the internet wayback machine, but can't get it to select the forum part of the old style PP.

As I recall, ( and am pretty certain) this site appeared around 2000. I was somehow caught up in the initial stages--- to explain:

After struggling with an appalling 'damp repair' and approaching The Listed Property Owners' Club for guidance ( I think we were subscibers at that time)-- this set off a chain of events: Stephen Boniface Associates were recommended to me to arbitrate the damp problem; I was invited to write an editorial about the damp saga for 'Period House' Magazine which, at that time was linked in with, or published by LPOC. The article was also in the LPOC newsletter. Somehow, and in the midst of all this I received a call from Robert during which his idea of PPUK was springboarded --- I remember wishing him luck and, after a minor adjustment around 6 years ago alluded to by Moo, here we all are now.

If I look very deep down in my desk I reckon I could probably find the original article/s and the correct dates.... .

I also think that as the editorship of Period House magazine, and Period House and Traditional lIving changed, so there were references to PPUK, then later in the Telegraph weekend section... something like that.

PPUK is a wonderful source of information, and, on a personal note, we have been fortunate enough to benefit from the expertise of a well known company listed in the PPUK Services section, met some wonderful people and hugely enjoyed the humour and shrewd advice from other PPUKers......... LONG LIVE PPUK.

Ah, but so far as I remember it, the current, much-loved Moo was previously known by a different name - Mo (is that right, Moo?) I seem to remember her bemoaning the fact that another Mo was causing confusion, and asking for suggestions for a new name.

Of course, it may all have been an elaborate cover-up for the fact that she was being given a new identity, under the FBI witness protection scheme.

It was actually the young Miss Penners (as she was then) who first introduced me to PPUK. She thought I would derive some considerable benefit from the wealth of advice available here, and the nice people that I would "meet".

How right she was!

So, everyone, I'm afraid she was to blame for what you now have to endure.

Yes.

And guess who suggested that Moo, with its bovine connotations, would be more appropriate ....?

As I remember it, the suggestion came from someone who had in mind the charming Norfolk pronunciation of "Mo" - and nothing more.

I was told by one of the crew from the BBC production that members of this forum were talking about the televised program , perhaps I would like to join in the discussions.
( 6 or 7 years ago), can't remember.

I had no intention of participating in " chatter boxes". I was forced to defend my principles when someone accused me ( was it Evelyn ?) that I was not restoring using wattle and daub.
As wattle and daub had long disappeared from the building I promptly replied that I was in the business of restoration and not reproduction.
I decided to read a few more threads and came across some intelligent conversations.
Read a few more and ended up p*$$*ng myself with laughter at a longish thread that Penners and Grimmers were going hammer and tongs at each other.
Now we are left just with Penners ( and some decent imitators :wink: )
Good reason for me to keep plodding along in the discussions.
