It actually means that something is on the verge of becoming 'collectable' which is, of course, the first step on the way to becoming an 'antique'.
I think I shall from now on call most of my furnishings second-hand, because that's what they are.
And when you come to think about it, everything we buy becomes 'used' as soon as we've started - er - using it.

I quite like the term pre-loved, it's very girly. I have to confess to being fairly pre-loved myself!!

I know just how you feel about the clothes thing too - up to age 10 my parents couldn't afford clothes for both so I wore my brother's, you can't imagine the joy I felt at getting my own school uniform at 11. I still hate trousers.

I used to like getting cast-off clothes from my sister, cousin and my parents' friends' daughters - I just saw it as getting new things to wear (I remember one bag of clothes contained some bras - that was great fun at the age of 11!). What I didn't like though was having my hair cut at the barbers with my brothers!
I still like second-hand stuff - my brother has given me loads of stuff over the years. It's always good stuff too as he's got lots more money than us.... He's in a 50s-70s retro phase at the moment which isn't really our thing but I've said I'll take the Eames chair/recliner off his hands if he gets bored with it...

This is called "Gothic", but I don't know which Gothic in particular. Watts of W don't give a history of their pre-printed papers. I'm tempted.

The wallpapers are really interesting... i like the Watts of W one.....
In fact i like them all in their own way... the other two form their own stripe within the design too ...most endearing the last one.... quite whimsical in its own way.
The Americans are big on the history of everything.. i think mainly because its a relatively new country . I found the most amazing interiors shop in Grapevine Texas... so much so that even now i buy items from them and they ship them over for me.
I have just bought a book on interiors from tudor to 19th century its a bit scruffy but i am looking forward to sitting down with it and a fair few cup of teas to have a good read!

The Grand hall is the Grade 1 listed with the lantern that blew the lighting budget for that part of the house!! The blue behind the arch was the plastic sheeting being used to protect finished areas. Best project ever that one and a great privilge to be part of it.
The Town House was a lovely one to work on, we discovered some original wall paper under the dado and we preserved the least damaged section behind perspex inthe inner part of the hall.

That looks simply divine especially the lantern ! Its always so satisfying when a project comes together, your clients are really pleased with the results and you can then stand back and admire it in all its glory and think..."yes i did a good job there"
