DO buy husband cable detector and circuit tester when you move into old house with dodgy wiring. They do avoid accidents.

If qualified gas engineer husband is installing central heating, don't be alarmed if the smoke alarm goes off, he merely thought he would save time not using asbestos mat under the copper pipe he was soldering and that kitchen ceiling needed to come down anyway, so what are a few burned lathes.

If by lathes you mean very thin strips of wood nailed to joists supporting plaster then yeah.. we also have quarry tiles shoved in spaces between bricks in one internal wall we had to repair : Think this house was built by Bodger & Son

Lathes - machines for turning wood - big heavy machines
Laths - thin bits of wood between joists - much less likely to break your skull if they fall on you

I always think that it helps if you have a northern accent for lathes and laths problem

Don't stop work when you are on a roll, as getting going again is very hard.

When pressing apples for home made cider, DO put a glass under the drip groove after removing your fermentation vessel.
Otherwise you find the cats have drunk goodness knows how much apple juice that has dripped onto the floor overnight, because you finished at some rather late hour and couldn't be bothered to clean up until the next day.
Plus make sure that said cats can get outside through catflap to throw up all that sweet juice.

Mind you the floor tiles will be nice and clean from those scratchy cat tongues.
