From when it was first posted the picture has reminded me of Felbrigg Hall in Norfolk, but I suspect it isn't.

Stephen's got it! I should have recognised it - we usually go there on a snowdrop walk in the Spring (but not this year, unfortunately).

Naughty of me to jump in, but here's one I pinched off the 'net a couple of years ago as a dramatic pic to illustrate a talk about nasty things that happen to old buildings. I don't know where it is but if anyone does I'd be interested to hear what the follow-up was (if any)

I am giving it to Jon, because it is the Duomo - not the Basillica.

Fascinating Fresco. As the congregation you look up and see Christ in glory, but as the Priest you see the Devil in Hell - to keep you on your toes!!

Bearing in mind when it was built c. 1420 it was an amazing technical feat of engineering. And, it is stunning aesthetically.

At the risk of sounding like a sore loser ( :wink: ) aren't the duomo and the basilica one and the same? That is, the Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore.

If this was QI, I would probably avoid using the words 'water tower' for fear of getting klaxons and whistles, and being awarded ten minus points.
