One things for sure i am going to have to make it out of bounds until i have completely finished otherwise he will mither me to death!
sometimes i wish he didnt work from home so much then i could get more done!

I will have a scan through my back issues as i think i know exactly what you have seen but cant put my finger on it..... i vaguely remember seeing them myself and being the hoarder i am... all in the name of research for future clients and my own home i never throw anything out really in the name of interiors !!

A quote from my 5 year old daughter shocked me slightly recently - I couldn't answer some obscure question that only a 5 year old would ask, and was replied to with "Why don't you Google it?" :shock: Turns out they were shown how to use Google in the Reception class at primary school. How much better are my kids going to be with computers than I am? A lot, that's for certain.

my son was using a computer at the age of two at his pre school... now he is 7 he is very adept at photoshop, powerpoint, microsoft word the lot...
Living in a computer savvy world i have to admit to my disdain for young children being so adept.. what happened to the good old fashioned library? now everything is available at the click of a mouse... i must admit i find it great for me workwise for research etc.. but sometimes you have to wonder what is happening to the art of conversation when the language is constantly abbreviated to save ones fingers on i-tap!.. and mobile phones for kids.. don't get me started... i have had a constant battle with my girls whos friends have all had them at the age of 7 or 8... but us being the parents we are have only let them have them recently and they are 12 and 16.. this is mainly due to them spending an hour each way to school on the bus down back country lanes... and have already had two instances where the bus has either broken down or had an accident and they havent arrived home till almost 7 pm! by which time i am frantic as you can imagine.

Having been lucky enough both to see and be fed a delicious lunch at Joce's I can vouch for her excellent taste and good eye. The brick vaulted kitchen and adjacent spaces are extraordinary, and have such a warm and welcoming feel to them (please dont lime render those brick ceilings, even if Gareth says its the authentic treatment!).

Ahhhh, thankyou - you are too kind. I'm looking forward to heaping Chateau Nigel with praise too. As for the rendering the exposed brick ceilings, I also think the cottage would lose something. The mouldy damp stone walls need rendering though.

And all these gorgeous tweedy staggy cushions! Glorious! None of them are the one I saw, but they'd all do very nicely for my gamekeeper's cottage - thanks so much.

Here's a bargain that Mrs P found by accident, some years ago. It was standing on the pavement outside a bric-a-brac shop in a village in Essex. It cost her £12.

It's solid mahogany. Does anyone have a view on its age? Ignore the seat fabric, which we put on ourselves.

Blimey! Where to start? As an inveterate bargain hunter I tend to pick up anything I like the look of that will be useful. So... desk rescued for free by Mr M from a London theatre he was working in, Ercol Goldsmith chair (whole set £60 from ebay), brass desk lamp £4 from flea market.

And then needed a filing cabinet - thought grey metal wasn't quite the thing, so found this (and lamp) in charity furniture place for £15 the pair:

Nothing, sadly of the Antiques Roadshow "But this is genuine Chippendale, Faberge, Gainsborough etc!" bargain, but I enjoy them!

Legs suggest aesthetic movement to me. Description of the following chair (on the right) is:

"BRUCE TALBERT - a pair of ebonised Aesthetic Movement 'standard dining chair' with upholstered seat probably made by Gillows. See example in 'Fashionable Furniture' Bruce Talbert. c 1870. " Similar taper and ending on the leg. The turning on the leg also suggests this period to me.

Last quarter of the 19thC then?

Not a period I have studied much, but it looks to be of excellent quality. Quite collectable these days I gather. A real bargain for fine, elegant chair.

Absolutely fantabulous! I had never known about the stately home fairs before coming on here! and nor have i ever been to one but for sure now i will be looking out for them in the future although i don't hold out much hope !

Mr Hatster and I went to London and nosed round all the expensive furniture shops. Mr Hatster falls in love with ludicrously expensive Italian designer leather dining chairs. I veto them on grounds of cost and the need to spend money on worthwhile things like lime plaster. Mr Hatster is sad.

A couple of months later, I go onto Ebay to do my regular trawl and see ... someone a few miles away selling the very same Italian leather chairs (and oddly enough, he was a colleague of a friend). He had decided to build an extension, had bought the dining table and chairs in advance, then with the credit crunch, had decided not to build the extension, which left him with a spare dining table and chairs in his garage.

Our dining room now combines lime plaster and Italian designer chairs. We are both happy.
