Advice on gravel needed

Biff, it's going to cost you a lot more than a bar of chocolate to get a sneaky peak at some girl on girl action. I'm not pimping them out for less that a few grand an evening, and it's exta if you want the wellies and power tools, .........................a lot extra.

Well I'll add another bar of chocolate, even at £3.60 a bar, and would be happy to lose the power tools but the wellies should stay. Anyone else care to chip in? Could be an interesting next PPUK get-together. :lol:

wellies and chocolate? sounds like an interesting day. naked except for wellies , chocolate , strong hallucinogenic drugs , a few bottles of mescal and a small wooded area. now that would be a good ppuk party.

Sorry Matthew, my bad as they say. I was sad to see some of the turns the thread had taken, particularly in regard to the 2 ladies in question. I have met Joce IRL and she is a lovely person. I can also sympathise with the desire to help someone out and enthusiasm leading to misunderstanding. I felt it was time to interject a goodly measure of silliness.

May I make a suggestion?

A lot of this thread should really not have been in the public domain. Would it not be better if personal criticism and angry exchanges could in future be confined to the Private Message facility?

Indeed. Although if there is public criticism, it would be far more productive to also provide an explanation of the criticism so that, if correct, it would be of benefit to others about to make the same mistake or, if incorrect, it would allow for correction. Despite the inevitable differences of opinions among PPUKers I'm sure we're all basically here to learn.

Well, I certainly am and I'd be interested to learn just how I've ruined my house? Gareth has yet to explain that one. Joce had a go on his behalf but only mentioned the fact that I haven't lime plastered the walls where there was no previous evidence of them being done anyway.

From the pictures I remember of Jaqy's house, I thought it looked great and seem to recall it had had a lot of praise on here in the past when she posted. Albeit the roof and windows (which as she explained are not of her making) are not "correct".

I'd be very interested in an explanation of why it is "ruined" - so that we can learn and judge better for ourselves. To my uneducated eye it looks a far far better place than when it was covered in concrete and destined for demolition...

In terms of aesthetics, lots of exposed stone may not be authentic or historically accurate - but it is a question of taste. Walls would originally have been covered, also maybe in part for reasons of taste. Likewise some people now like to expose them. We left our inglenook and one "external" wall of the inglenook exposed because the stone really is beautiful to look at, but re-lime plastered the rest of the walls.

I doubt we could ever all agree on all aspects of our projects - but we should remember that we all come here united in our desire to share and to learn because we want to do better by our houses than they have had in the past. Oh, and our united hatred of c3m3nt and concr3t3!

As it is, I've just been through this thread from start to finish to ascertain why it's been so daftly divisive. As far as I can tell, this boils down to something about (a) the environment and (b) supermarkets, and diddley-squat about gravel.

[Bangs gavel High-Court-Judge-Stylee] Personally, I conclude DWB / Jacqy should NOT have been rounded-on for what she said (even if I disagree with her about supermarkets which I consider the sheds of Beelzebub).

I read that, too. But that was a private arrangement of which the outcome need not have been put into the public domain.

But what was wrong with that? Chris knew I was going with a lump hammer. The breaker was mentioned as maybe being needed after he'd left for work. Joce had tried to do it herself with a pick axe and was getting nowhere. Joce and I had a lovely day and parted with the intention of Joce coming to mine next week to help me decide on a colour for my living room walls. Joce later posted pictures saying what a great job it was and thanked me for doing it.

Later still, Joce sent me a text saying Chris was 'amazed and touched' by the job I'd done and that the neighbour had said he would remove the rubble and use it to fill the potholes, so she was 'blessed all round'.

Then we miss a bit because the next thing is that all I've done is 'show off with a breaker', left a mess, no one had warned Joce of the inevitable rubble and they don't have any money to move it!!

Confused? I suspect Chris has come home in a foul mood for whatever reason, a row ensued and all of a sudden I'm in the firing line. Even offering to help put it right wasn't good enough. Hey ho.

I may be wrong but what other explanation can there be?

So why did she do some of the breaking herself, using both the breaker and the sledge hammer and even got her own sledge hammer out which weighs 2lbs more than mine? And don't forget that she had started the job herself and was asking what to put down when the concrete had gone.
