Yes, that's true - my house also had balck and white windows in the early 20thC, though originally I'm sure they'd have been green.
But I think all white everywhere is a very modern thing.

Thta'a the other thing about linseed paint? Can you get the range of colour? Colour is more important than anything, it needs to be rich, beautifully pigmented. When I researched linseed paints a couple of years ago there was a dismaying lack of choice in darker shades.
