Oh it all gets used and it is all useful. At times of surplus it may be exported and sold at a low price so that it does not appear to be financially useful but it will be offsetting the use of other fuels, probably mostly gas during short term fluctuations. It does illustrate the point that dealing with surplus electricity on windy days is more often a problem than dealing with a shortage on calm days.
