Money equates to energy. Think about the big picture, not small, isolated examples. When you spend money, energy gets used as a result. The more you spend, the more energy is used down the line - maybe not directly in producing whatever it is you buy but perhaps by maintaining the seller's lifestyle, contributing more tax for the government to spend etc etc.
