I have something very similar. OK, it opens at the front rather than the back (unless I put it on in reverse), but it really is very warm.

You always have to be careful when criticising these things. We have a "book man" who comes round at work, leaving samples of books and various "no home should be without one" type products. He left one of these blankets with sleeves things a while ago - in a colour one of my colleagues described as "dog sick beige". We're all laughing at it, right up until someone realises that 3 people have already signed up for one

Oh Penners, how can you be so churlish? It comes with a BONUS LED reading light, and a clip to attach books and magazines, in case you've lost both your lamp and your hands.
I can see the red backless one coming in handy for fancy-dress naughty Cardinals at a vicars and tarts party too. Or do they not do that in Suffolk?

I was tempted to get a black one, so that when I get my scythe I could be the life and soul of any fancy dress party I'm invited too .

Brrrr. minus 12.5 driving home through Chelmsford and Braintree early this morning. I hear that below about minus 8, salted roads will freeze anyway, so be careful out there people.

I attempted to liberate some rock salt from the pile at the end of my drive yesterday - bit was thwarted by the fact it had frozen rock solid and was resistant even to blows with the spade. Eek that's cold.

Solzhenitsyn would understand our sufferings. But how they cope at -20, when -10 causes such difficulty, I can't imagine.

Things are starting to freeze in the house, in the bathroom and kitchen. If it weren't for the chickies I'd go somewhere else.

I engaged in a little turkey murdering yesterday morning ( :shock: ). The water on the table we were plucking and drawing on was freezing as fast as we were working. When I put my hand on it,it stuck fast! :shock:

When I came downstairs this morning, before the central heating had kicked in, the temperature in the breakfast room was (sorry, Joce!) 15.5.

We have now completed our SDG in that part of the house: breakfast-room sash, two casements in the kitchen, and the top (glazed) half of the back door. It has really made a difference.

I'm really glad to hear it's making a tremendous difference Moo - that sounds very cosy indeed. Chris is strongly resisting the idea but I'm working on it!

Why on earth is Chris resisting the idea? It's cheap, it's easy, it's inconspicuous, and it's reversible.

An alternative plan might be to bundle up your livestock and go and camp in Jaqy's house for the duration (Chris not invited, of course, because he doesn't mind the cold).

I don't think Chris finds the cold here difficult, partly because he's rarely here and partly because he doesn't go into the unheated kitchen very much at all. So he doesn't really understand the quick fix of the secondary glazing, and thinks it must look unattractive. (can you show any pics Moo?)

My complaints fall on deaf ears, really.
