The latest object - hmm. Is it part of a distillation process? Something that attaches to something and collects a residue - an eau de vie catcher? Oh, so difficult! Intriguing though. And the previous object!! I must say I'm very amused at the kind of objects you can't live without Doug :lol: And think Mrs Doug must be a really saintly person to let you!

Thank you very much for all the kind words, you all have to cross fingers for me that this is going to work - if only the human body were as simple as a period property! Unfortunately it's a disease that comes back and back with no real cure, but let's hope it will get me on my feet again for a good chunk of time. As for who's first Doug I think that might be me -bilateral cystectomy with possible oophorectomy is scheduled for Jan 4. The plan is keyhole surgery within a morning and no overnight stay but it's all a bit of an unknown.

Very sorry to read about your awful health issues and sending a great big hug to Tipperary. It's awful to be virtually house bound when you're used to being such an active person. Let's hope 2013 sees us both out there filling our houses with more interesting things Xxx

I wondered about that. So the mould-like thing would clamp around something to form a handle with which to control pouring stuff (molten lead?) out of the cup?

Got it in one Flyfisher. As winner do you have something that we don't know what it is??
It's a mould for casting a lead hammer head to the handle. When the lead cools and contracts it grips onto the handle.

You put the handle, could be wood or metal into the mould



Close it and cramp the mould together



Then scoop up some molten lead from the pot using the handle to hold the mould and then tip it backwards so that the lead runs into the cavity around the handle. The surplus is then pored via the little lip in the edge back into the pot.

Ah, ingenious, but I must be honest and admit that wasn't exactly what I was trying to describe. Halfway there I suppose.
