Definitely love your objects Doug, I've a painful disease that prevents sleep ( endometriosis 
) and am just hanging on in there waiting for my surgery, the new posts on PPUKe are lovely company in the night-times.
The barking iron is interesting, I remember visiting a tannery in Morocco so ought to have got that one. The stench of the place is unbelievable!
I also think the latest item might be a pirate amputee kit. :wink:

I bet you found them at the top of the beanstalk, one is to use when darning really really big socks, and the other is to help thread the needle with the yarn to darn the really really big socks.

I've wondered why you've been posting at such odd hours, and assumed that it was either because of Chris's timetable or a riotous lifestyle. Then you mentioned surgery, and we know what it'll be for. I've looked it up, and now have some idea what you've been enduring.
And yet you still manage to post cheerfully helpful messages here. You're amazing, and I only wish that one of us had friends in sufficiently high places to be able to get you fast-tracked into hospital.

I'm sorry to hear of your illness Joce and I agree with every thing Moo has written. I'm waiting for a new hip at the moment. They've been putting it off for a couple of years because of the tablets they keep bunging in me and the old dickey ticker. Apparently I'm going to have an epidural something or other so I can sit and watch. :roll:
I hope you get done soon. We'll see who's first shall we??

My sympathies to you both, don't envy you waiting an unknown amount of time for something to make life so much better, fingers crossed you'll both get your ops soon.
As for the whastsit, been racking my brain for possible uses and am totally stumped. Does the wooden bit turn when around when the metal peg thing on the end is connected to something else? And do the two have a combined use?

Nothing turns on it and they both used for the same/similar purpose. The wooden handled item is used with the handle upright and it's then used in either a circular or up and down motion. Del Boy's name has some connection to the hooked thingy's use.. :twisted:

Yep. That's close enough Jellyfire. They are pig scrapers for cleaning off the bristles etc. from the skin (of dead pigs that is!!) What on earth persuaded me that I should own them?? :shock:

Well it looks like an industrial version of the thingybob you would tap into a rubber tree to collect the resin.. But not sure what kind of tree would need one like that, maybe a silver birch or copper beech?

I bet it connects to a pipe from a pot of hot milk so you can pour the liquid into another piece of cheese making equipment.
Sorry to hear about your hip, don't worry about not being knocked out though, you don't have to look if you don't want to.

The latest object - hmm. Is it part of a distillation process? Something that attaches to something and collects a residue - an eau de vie catcher? Oh, so difficult! Intriguing though. And the previous object!! I must say I'm very amused at the kind of objects you can't live without Doug :lol: And think Mrs Doug must be a really saintly person to let you!
Thank you very much for all the kind words, you all have to cross fingers for me that this is going to work - if only the human body were as simple as a period property! Unfortunately it's a disease that comes back and back with no real cure, but let's hope it will get me on my feet again for a good chunk of time. As for who's first Doug I think that might be me -bilateral cystectomy with possible oophorectomy is scheduled for Jan 4. The plan is keyhole surgery within a morning and no overnight stay but it's all a bit of an unknown.
Very sorry to read about your awful health issues and sending a great big hug to Tipperary. It's awful to be virtually house bound when you're used to being such an active person. Let's hope 2013 sees us both out there filling our houses with more interesting things Xxx
