but I don't drink alcohol. His Lorship can't because of a missing enzyme, and I just ended up not either. Rather like polyester jumpsuits really, wouldn't want one myself, but if it makes someone else happy that's fine with me. So we have it in the house ( booze, not poly jumpsuits ), but not for us.

Have you had a good search for it? They can be dashed small and fiddly. Have a look down the back of the settee, and under the fridge. Quite often when I have lost something small from a pocket, it turns up in the fluff trap in Mrs FW's washing machine.

That might well be what it is called by those who have a use for it - but what's it for? When I was young there was a bounty on squirrels' tails - is it for holding them by the gross? (How gross!)
And that latest thing has to be some sort of mould for casting lead things - gutters? downpipes?

Close Keith, it's used for caulking the collar joints in iron pipes with molten lead and is best used when the pipe is horizontal. The joint is stuffed with tarred hemp to stop the lead flowing into the pipe and any surplus from where the lead is poured in is cleaned off with a sharp chisel or chipping knife.
