In the old forum, you could direct your message to a specific person by entering your response immediately after their message (no matter where they were in the stack). How do you do that in this new system?

There is one snag with this style of threading, though, and that's when a thread runs to several pages; then it's difficult to keep track of who's said what. Particularly if the argument/discussion rambles off the beaten track a bit.

I have only just become a member so didn't have time to get used to the old format. However; I joined so that I can benefit from the wealth of knowledge that all the other contributors have. This new format doesn't stop me from doing this.
I just don't get why everyone is so 'up in arms' about it. Perhaps there is a need to stand back a little and ponder what we care about most, old buildings....or Discussion Forum software.
I think that it is a shame that some people are leaving because of it. But perhaps they should spare a thought for the administrator.......sometimes old software is difficult and time-consuming to keep going.

I like this forum much better, -easier to find the threads you are interested in, easier to search, and the latest replys do not get lost.
It is faster on my machine, too.

Nice idea Houblon, but how do we get back to the old forum? It seems to me that once you've registered for the new one, you no longer have access to the old.
I think that messages posted on the new forum are still readable on the old, so I've posted a note of seductive :wink: encouragement to all the old stagers, to come on over and join in the fun!

It would be useful to know where in each thread I left off last time but new posts do not seem to be marked. Am I missing something?
Two things -
1 The first time I posted a message here, I was asked to log in, and given the opportunity to tick a little box if I wanted to be logged in automatically each time. So I did.
The next time the same log-in window appeared, with the same little box. I ticked it again.
It happens every time I want to post a message, and I'm beginning to find it irritating.
2 It would be helpful to know which threads have had new messages posted since I last dipped into the forum. The old system had them highlighted loud and clear, which was really useful.

If a new post is made the topic in question gets put to the top of the list. You can alos see on the right who made the most recent post and when. This means one doesnt have to scroll down miles to see if anyone has made a posting to an old thread. All in all a much better system in my opinion.

"view posts since last visit"
To make life easier, click on this link.
It will open up a page with all the threads with new posts.
Save this page in your favourites, so each time you click on the link to the forum you come straight to this page.
Also, if you click on the link in the box under "Topics" header, you go to the start of the topic, if you click on the small white page marker next to to the persons name under the "last post" header you go to the last post that was made.
