What we think of the new forum

I think it's worth giving the few forum a go. I use a couple of other php boards and have got used to the format and make use of the facilities that it offers.

Being able to quote other people

and add the URL of websites is handy.
And the colours are so PPUK.
Gotta run Dan the Man's on telly.

Looks like it's just you and me for this new forum then, Anne. You can edit your spelling of embarassment and then I can edit my quotation of your post. Endless fun.

I like it - I've been a 'follower' and not big contributer of the 'old' board for about 3 years now, and I think this is a good step forward - its easy to use & read.

I much prefer this format. I changed the look of the old one several times but it kept reverting to the default style which I found difficult to get on with

Far too fancy and messy.
Too many bells and whistles.
Unpleasant to see and use.
Have been forced to register which I never did before and it looks like I have to login each time too.
Tedious and very tacky.
The forum version of plastic windows.
Don't think I'll bother anymore - it's too much hastle to find the new messages.

You only have to register to post, you can browse as much as you like as a guest.
You can tick the box which says log me in each time, pays to read and learn!!!
If you want to see just the latest posts you can click on the wording "View posts since last visit" from the forum index page.
In fact I tend to use this as my log in page, save it to your favourites after having ticked the log me in auto box and you just get posts which have had an answer since you last logged in.

How do you de-register from the new site, please?
I don't see anywhere that lets you do it.
I only registered to see what it was like, don't like it and want to escape.
I never registered for the old site, at least I can't remember doing so.

Please reply to the old list someone .... Having to login to this awful site is a complete pain in the gutters.

Good Bits-We can pm people, Clear layout, Extra features,
Bad Bits-Lots of the 'Old (Can I say that?) Faithfuls' have already moaned and say they won't play anymore, It has taken me 15 mins to work out how to 'manage' all the extra features to post, I can't find some of the old 'reference posts' in the search feature. And what do all those buttons on the top of the reply page do?

But I have managed to log on again since yesterday.

Buttons at the top of the page

B is for bold text
i is for italic
u is for underscore

Quote can be used to emphasis quotes

Highlight the text and then press the quote button and it looks like the above.

Can't remember what code is off the top of my head,

is a list, again make you list and then highlight it, press the list button.

can't remember the list= one

img is for adding images, though lots of phpo sites don't use this to stop people from adding very large images to their post.
URL is for adding url's, which can be handy, so you can point to an image for people to look at.

and people can just click on the link to go direct to the picture or site, again as above.

You can practise with them, by using the preview button below your reply post and checking out what they do and look like.

Its like new cars , everyone always complains theres too many shiny buttons ,( just more things to go wrong ) then before you know it , everyone is driving one and it becomes the norm. :twisted:

I haven't read it - it depends where it was sent - there are three options now apparently- old, new, individual.
Also I am at work and not always able to access things as they come in.

I have written to the Moderator asking to be removed.

I don't have a car and I'm not even going to bookmark or look at this again - having to og-in each time is a waste of time.

You don’t have to log out each time; you can tick the box to remember you for next time you go on here, anyway, does your time of 2 seconds really mean so much to you.

Whilst many may be happy with the old format, technology has to change to compete. Windows XP , me , ce, 2000, NT , 98 , 95..... Natural progression. If we were all adamant about change we would still be using windows 3.1 in the days when IBM ruled the world.
You will find after using it for a bit, you may even get to like it.

We can still have a forum that discusses conservation without sticking our heads in the sand on change. Change is constant; we should embrace, or become dinosaurs.

As for cars, give your horse a sugar lump from me!

but you are sorted now on that score, just need to read the rest of the posts so that you can finally work out how to log in just once, but then as you're not coming back it doesn't really matter.
