Hello all,

Well the move went well, kinda....haven't actually moved in yet but have given an eviction notice to the woodworm! Thanks to a burst pipe yesterday we have been left with no heating (what heating there was) and no water as the stop cock in the celler is a duff and doesn't do a thing, had to resort to turning off the main in the road outside.

Had lots of people round to look at electrics, plumbing and the basics as we need heat as a priority. Thank goodness we have the woodburner and the previous owner left the calor gas thingy for us, which was nice. Plumber coming to fix burst pipe after xmas so lots of winter clothing til then, lol. The Mill is gorgeous though, so glad we are now its custodians

Well radiators are in at last - and you're right heat rises.

Sadly, water also falls. As I found out when I switched the water back on and didn't spot the ballcock had stuck on the water tank. Flooded the bathroom and the boiler room below in 15 minutes. SWMBO didn't see the humorous side when I woke her at 2.30am to apprise her of the situation!

Thank goodness our only minor water-related incident has been in a gulley outside the house. We now have a handy skating rink in the drive. Tickets are available at just £5 each - bring your own skates.

I wonder why the tank overflowed though? Was the overflow pipework blocked with ice perhaps?

Well I've had no complaints and can see my gene puddle from here!!!

Yes - ballcock has been leaking a little for a while because I haven't got round to replacing it for a while (months and months ) so it is my own fault.
